M-6, pro pointer, pistol probe
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
The plan was to detect both Sat. & Sun....nope!
Ok, Sunday. Rain is due in at 8 am., i'm out the door by 6. Change of search area also, instead of the sports field i hit the little hill on the side. I spotted mowed trash and thought "coin spills", yep, several. One had 5 nickels & 2 dimes.
Next signal is a solid sounding slightly bouncy "screw cap" reading. The little voice says "you should dig that". I figure "ok, i haven't dug my trash quota yet". From 3" down what looks like the broken edge of a screw cap appears in the dirt pile. I pick it up & turn it over...ring! (surprise!)
Silver with amethyst stone & gold accents. Can't make out the markings inside the band (old or foreign?).
Next is a quarter reading that disappears after a few svoops of dirt. Check all the dirt, nope! Check the only other thing that came out of the hole, a large piece of glass...yep! Surprise! It has wire in it.
Another quarter reading turns up what looks like a green plastic poker chip...its metal...at lest thats what the detector says.
Round thing with stones is snap part maybe.

Rain starts, time to leave. I ask for a final surprise. At the edge of the parking lot, right next to the truck i get another quarter reading....a bullet!!! I was surprised!!!

WHADIFIND's dime on the pin pointer tip, works well!

Hope everyones day is filled with surprises...the good kind!

I hope the pic attachment worked it was a little weird.
Maybe one of you can make out the marks inside the band, i can't figure them out.

Looks like a fine day to me! A pretty ring like that doesn't come out very often. Looks old.

My tip? Well, if you use it like I do, (with it taped inside my glove), just don't forget it's there. It sounds off
really well when waved under the coil with a handful of dirt. ;)

Thanks!
It looks old to me too, thats why i wish i could make out the hallmarks.
I am amazed it has all the little stones still on it and the two areas where the band attaches have gold accents.
I still have to test the ring. This is the first silver ring with gold accents i have found!

....i would be one of those people who forgot there the dime was taped to my thumb under the glove!
I drove myself nuts for a little while because my beach scoop, which was attached to my tool belt was setting off my detector when i swung to the left! Maybe there is "help" for me?:D

Really nice ring. Maybe get it fixed? I think I would.

Do you have a jewelry loupe? I often put the loupe up to my phone camera and get really close to the object. Works pretty well.

I have a lope of sorts, probably not a quality one, its 10 X.
I will try that, it may work if all the planets are alined and the sun is in the seventh house!
I probably need 4 hands to do that. :D

Thank you! That is an option especially if it is an older ring. It is really pretty, the pics don't capture how it glitters.

Awesome find my friend- that ring is beautiful!! You're on a nice roll- keep up the great work!!

I tried to get better pics.
Hope it worked.

Nice work, it's really hard to photograph tiny things sometimes. That really is a nice ring, and now I see the gold bits on either side, interesting. I agree that getting it fixed would be worth it. And then they can tell you what the stones are!

Cleaning that trash out pays off with one Sweet ring, Awesome hunt!!
Can't help with the hallmark, try the spit and aluminum foil test to see if it is silver. Place the ring in a small piece of aluminum foil and give it a big spit ball. Wrap it up for a minute or so and if if comes out smelling like rotton eggs/sulfer mix-nasty smelling. Bingo!!
Not sure how reliable it is but, I've tried it on known silver pieces and it works.

That's one sharp lookin' ring........and I really like how you used the glass for a staging platform.......you have an artists eye!!

Thanks!
I have a Garrett pin pointer, to get more depth you hold a dime to the side of it and slowly slide the dime down to the tip then back up and stop when it stops beeping. Gets you an inch or more of extra depth.

WHADIFIND explaines it better in his post; "Pa. is always kind to me."
Its in post # 14. dated 6/3/2016 at the bottom.

Thx Ms2Beep! I'll try it!

I gotta check this out! Now, I just need to first find some silver to try it on!

That's a really nice looking ring!! Congrats and hH

Hello! The ring is even nicer in those pic's. Can't tell much about the hallmarks, not that I can help with those anyway...
Let us know what you find out.

Thanks ds, i'm going to try that. If nothing else it will raise me up a notch or two on the family's "nut" meter. They will have no clue what i'm doing :sly::D
