Limited finds, but they're old

Tried a couple fields but the one I was most interested in was a little long, so went back to the two we did last week. Most of my targets (at least the more interesting ones) date mid 1700s, and we were lucky as our friend the Patriot was nice enough to walk right by a good part of the site and stay in his one little spot. You're not that good yet... maybe in the range of the PA bros. :laughing7:

Better finds were the little green Jesus, French bale seals, and George II copper all dating about 1740s or 50s. I don't have any peroxide so the cleaned pics won't be until at least tomorrow. Not as good as last time but certainly enough targets to have a chance.

Re: Limited finds, but they're old

I assume you know what the brass item is in the top left of first picture - with the 2 holes in. I'm struggling for the name, but something like a nape clasp :icon_scratch:

The button is the best find in my books :icon_thumright:

Not cape. If it has a hook on the reverse (or missing hook) it was a type of colonial fittment around the neck for a collar type thing.

The button is junk, I think this coin is more junky :icon_thumright:

Re: Limited finds, but they're old

Limited, compared to what? That's quite a haul. You need to hit a few fields of the type I've been doing, where 98% of the digs are aluminum scrap :D

Congrats on the nice George II. That disc next to it... Dandy button? Nice, whatever it is. :icon_thumright:

Re: Limited finds, but they're old

You did very well IP, good thing Patriot walked right by the sweet spot, maybe he did it out of sympathy for you!. I really like the little Jesus figure, another neat relic for the collection........and probably one you don't have yet. The GEO II copper is amazing, is it a counterfeit?. I always thought the counterfeits were made to look a bit worn, yours appears to have very little wear.

Yep, large Colonial flat button. Should look quite a bit better once I clean it.

Basically what he did was walk through the first 3/4 of the site and stay on the last 1/4. Unfortunately the site didn't give up near the amount of targets or number of quailty finds our past early French sites have. The copper doesn't look counterfeit, and even if it is, it's so close to the regal issue it wouldn't really be interesting. So just a George II Halfpenny.
