Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

New game on-dredges are being confiscated and the cdfg is trying to get their grubby paws on a big chopper to haul off big dredges. I want to buy a clunker to get taken and it needs to run. Anyone got pieces/parts to sell to make a jail dredge with--the ISSUE MUST be forced in a court a law--John

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

Only by rolling over to this type of horse pucky does it stay in place, peaceful disobedience I condone completely.
pvillhnter: run your exhaust into your header box or extend it to point at the ground, it helps quiet it down.
Most small engines use 1/2 or 3/4" pipe as exhaust, easy enough to build a good muffler system from off the shelf parts. (watch the HOT exposed pipe, wrap with screen to protect skin)
I'm converting my dredges to trommel feed highbanker's with a convertible hose inlet, so when dredging is legal again 4 bolts and I'm suctioning again
"We are slaves only when we go along with the would be masters"

Good luck everyone

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

good ideas, but does not exhaust carry traces of engine lubricants?tiny traces to be sure, but over time, maybe significant to recovery of fines.i like to regularly soap out/scrub all equipment including tubs, buckets, pans, sieves, sluices, bowls, wheels, moss, etc.that way if i get skunked,i will know that something else was the problem.i think hoser john has a line on lowtone mufflers, supposed to be very quiet.was considering a camo paint job for my backpack 4,maybe even camo netting. last year (late) would sometimes walk up,ordownstream a ways, with the dredge running.after 200 feet, sometimes less, couldnt hear the 6.5 honda at 2/3 throttle.but the air compressor popoff valve could be heard much farther away.oh well, gotta breathe right? ;D has anyone used underwater exhaust on small engine dredges?

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

Patches: I often try any number of things before I get it dialed in. Was even considering doing a wet exhaust with a water take off from the pump(no chance of oil in box). As far as camo goes I'm looking to tuck up under any overhanging brush and full paint job maybe duck blind style reeds and all. My biggest concerns are hose and suit, far to easy to spot from the air.

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

Briggs makes lowtone mufflers that really quiet things down. Morning P63-would you believe I got sunburned wednesday-in the middle a winter DAMN???? Anyhow I would not recommend the exhaust in the header as P63 said it all. Underwater tones it down but I've heard old miners tales about backpressure on exhaust fries engines or carbons them up from exhaust restriction?? I must admit I was running a op that required quiet and I have a engine in my shed that quit running quickly after about 60-70 hours of use--never tore it apart as immediately bought another as season was ending and I needed the gold NOW!!. Anyhow sounds like time for a engine biopsy this winter to ascertain whatzup with it? Bloody outta water--oh rain god please pee on us--the reclaimanator lives on----John :icon_sunny:

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

Why don't you run it with solar and electric, I know electric and water dont mix but you could seal off the system and leave it on shore grounded and then its even easier to cammo. It creates no noise and you can filter the dirt comming out into a pool with some silt fence so that you dont cloud the water. As for the hose you should just paint all that to match the water colors. You can buy wet suits that damn near disappear in water so you need to look at your water conditions. If your going to run OPS then the secrete is to run OPS totally undetected. If the river is big enough and your worried about beiing seen from the air put a john boat in the water with a dummy and a fishing pole.

Dont be a marder.......be the guy that was never there and doesnt know a thing.

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

evening john, just back for a minute.can well believe you got burnt down yonder.that big shiny thing in sky is coming back.if we had an airplane, maybe could tow it in a little closer.29 this morn,70 in afternoon.little uv always cheers me.shallow water er,highbanking, try to keep a big floppy hat in reach.to much uv/exertion takes a toll.hey tarkus, yeah, real tree would dress out my er,highbanker.or mossy oak.the camo netting is to cover the whole work area.would help with the hose problem.what kinda highbanking suit do ya use? :laughing7:them eco-flyboys will need droptanks and headsup display soon.also self sealing fuel tanks.(kidding). :wink:this years work will be entertaining regardless of politics.enjoy each sunny day my peeps.gotta go flip the chops.

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

surfn' electirc would require generator and here we go again with gas engines. I've known a few who had creeks close to their homes and easily used electric and MUCH cheaper and righteously pleasent with no noise, fumes and hassles of gas. I'm lookn' at 2 pieces of property today in a quest for free mining in kalif land of environutz and bureauratz. Yo Patches-kudos my friend-much respect bud-tons a au 2 u 2 -John :notworthy:

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

why not use a trolling motor?you could use it -take off the propeller use the hub to turn a freestanding pump with a belt.everyone says you cant do the 12 volt dredge but this is a different direction.the trolling motor should have plenty of rpms.you might could even use the prop, with a long reducer ,into a venturi- :icon_scratch:they do have a lot of @$$ for what they are.

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

gas engine pumps work very hard for a living.when they catch prime, they really dig in.a trolling motor with that much torque/hp would need some serious batteries.not sure they make one that big anyway.only alternative i see is gravity dredge.has been done succesfully many times.paystreaks can be lots of work to find.now add, must have lots of water high above.enough drop for adequate pressure for good suction.and still, need air.sigh.before the ban,was targeting remote locations.somewhere not dredged, redredged etc.around here, remote means way up a canyon, roaring creek.engine noise not a problem.anyone that close would be in visual anyway.tried and true still best round here.

almost forgot john, kudos x2 backatya. :thumbsup:i originally registered here just to meet ya,after reading your threads.here and the nugget forums also.will do a rain dance for ya.luck.

Re: Kali dredgers still a dredgn'

My biggest problem isn't the dredging laws, so much as they consider any stream or river a temple to the spotted toad or something along those lines. Using my skid steer and a trammel/sluice or highbanker would be fine, unfortunately the county won't let me move more than 200 yards (with a machine) before they want permits, plans, reasons and lots of money as well as an EIR. With bodies of water coming under multiple dept. jurisdictions, there always seems to be someone to take exception to anyone doing anything.
I've got a good paystreak coming out of a side canyon that cuts through some ancient river bed, carrying a lot of fine, flour and micron. Unfortunately the area I work is in plane view of the highway with a lot of county and Forestry officials driving by. So stealth is a mainstay for me now as well as no trespassing signs.

In process of building and converting machinery without floats, specializing for very small nuggets and fines. (any suggestions welcome)
