Decided to go metal detecting one last time before it gets cold, boy am i glad i did..... I had been hunting a local Fair Ground and have found lots of barber dimes mercs and wheats, but for some reason i decided to go to a Fair Ground 25 miles away that i had only been to once before... The weather was perfect ground was perfect and so was my find for the day. An old man probably 80 years old showed up about 20 minutes after i did with a metal detector that was covered with duc tape.... Ask me if id found anything and showed him my only find to that point a 1916-s barber dime.. He then told me i was in the wrong place, that he had hunted this fair for 30 years and had never found anything where i was hunting... Glad i ignored him...I was hunting the spot where the horse stables used to be... Five minutes after he left I got a descent 82 VDI hit that was 0.0" Got to be a can so i ignored it moved on, ended up back in that area got the same hit.. So i decided to get rid of the can that was there about 2" down. Scanned it agaion same 82 VDI only this time it was faint and 8" deep... Dug it out BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!1901 s Barber Quarter G-4 Maybe G-6 I about fainted when i looked up the current value..... $4800.00 Still have to get it slabed and graded, WOW. I later found a 1913 p barber quarter about 8 feet away 8" down that looks wonderful, full liberty probably VF...... Not a bad day in a place where i wasnt supposed to find anything... The old man later showed me his find for the day including 53 quarters, all clad, apparently he knows how to use the duc tape covered detector pretty well.. But he says he cant get much deeper than 4 inches.. Got to love the DFX........

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats....
White's Strikes again.
Make sure you enter it in Find of the Year in Western and Eastern

This should be on the Banner! I saw that a button made it up there and it would only sell for $75. ???

Your find is awesome!

Had to come back and look at this beauty again. I thought this post would draw more attention. Most non coin collectors dont realize the scarcity of this date/mm. 72,000+ . This is a huge, huge find and belongs on the banner and the Best of Tnet.

Once again, Nice job and congrats

I think there's a lot of forumites who just glance at the pics, see a few pieces of silver posted, don't see any gold, and don't realize how special/rare of a find that was made here. I agree, Banner All The Way!!! Spectacular silver coin find!! Very few silver coins found will draw as high a numismatic value as the '01S Barber Quarter.

Even though it will knock my coin off, I think this deserves the;

;DBANNER ;D

Congrats.

I think I have to move to the big island USA outside Norway ;D

Not only should this be on the banner, it should also be in the best of Tnet, in Whites customer stories, and an article in W&ET. This is a mindblowing find that needs to be seen by every detectorist and coin collector. A great inspirational find. It could definetly bring $10,000 in the next big auction

once again incredible find !
