Decided to go metal detecting one last time before it gets cold, boy am i glad i did..... I had been hunting a local Fair Ground and have found lots of barber dimes mercs and wheats, but for some reason i decided to go to a Fair Ground 25 miles away that i had only been to once before... The weather was perfect ground was perfect and so was my find for the day. An old man probably 80 years old showed up about 20 minutes after i did with a metal detector that was covered with duc tape.... Ask me if id found anything and showed him my only find to that point a 1916-s barber dime.. He then told me i was in the wrong place, that he had hunted this fair for 30 years and had never found anything where i was hunting... Glad i ignored him...I was hunting the spot where the horse stables used to be... Five minutes after he left I got a descent 82 VDI hit that was 0.0" Got to be a can so i ignored it moved on, ended up back in that area got the same hit.. So i decided to get rid of the can that was there about 2" down. Scanned it agaion same 82 VDI only this time it was faint and 8" deep... Dug it out BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!1901 s Barber Quarter G-4 Maybe G-6 I about fainted when i looked up the current value..... $4800.00 Still have to get it slabed and graded, WOW. I later found a 1913 p barber quarter about 8 feet away 8" down that looks wonderful, full liberty probably VF...... Not a bad day in a place where i wasnt supposed to find anything... The old man later showed me his find for the day including 53 quarters, all clad, apparently he knows how to use the duc tape covered detector pretty well.. But he says he cant get much deeper than 4 inches.. Got to love the DFX........

Jesus seeker that is a beauty! congrats! now go get some new gear!!!LOL

A fantastic find ---Congrats on a great hunt.

nice job there nephew. wish we had hunted that spot when I was then in September >:(

WOW.......WTG

Now that's one heckuva find. It's always nice to find something that can pay for the detector that you have in one fell swoop, as well as buy 3 or 4 more on top of it. I don't know if I'd sell it right off, I'd probably get it slabbed and then save it for a rainy day or an emergency.

CONGRATS!!!!!
