How long is the American people going to put up with the massive abuse of power:BangHead:.... How long will they continue to make excuses for him...:BangHead:

Can you hear me now? Eep. The National Security Agency (NSA) has been collecting telephone records of millions of Verizon customers – right down to local call data – under a top-secret court order issued in April, Britain’s The Guardian newspaper reported late Wednesday.
Under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) order, the Guardian reported, Verizon Business Services must provide the NSA “on an ongoing daily basis” with information from calls between the U.S. and overseas – but also with calls entirely inside the United States. Calls made entirely overseas were not affected. It was unclear whether phones in other Verizon divisions -- its regular cell phone operations, for instance -- were similarly targeted.

Guardian writer Glenn Greenwald, a frequent and fierce critic of the national security state’s expansion since 9-11, writes in his bombshell report that:
The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.
The order, issued April 25 and valid through July 19, requires Verizon to turn over the numbers of both parties, location data, call duration, and other information – though not the contents of the calls.

Judge Roger Vinson’s order relies on Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act. That part of the law, also known as the “business records provision,” permits FBI agents to seek a court order for “any tangible things (including books, records, papers, documents, and other items)” it deems relevant to an investigation.

Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, has repeatedly sounded the alarm about the way the government interprets that provision -- though he is sharply limited in what he can say about classified information. Wyden and Democratic Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado, another committee member, wrote a scathing letter to Attorney General Eric Holder in Sept. 2011 warning that Americans would be "stunned" if they learned what the government was doing.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) denounced the scope of the surveillance. "It’s analogous to the FBI stationing an agent outside every home in the country to track who goes in and who comes out," said Jameel Jaffer, ACLU Deputy Legal Director. The organization's Legislative Counsel, Michelle Richardson, bluntly branded the surveillance "unconstitutional" and insisted that "the government should end it and disclose its full scope, and Congress should initiate a full investigation."

The White House declined to comment -- but former vice president Al Gore, on Twitter, sharply condemned the government's actions:

US govt secretly collecting data on millions of Verizon users: Report

IMHO - Could you imagine if this was happending under a Republican President? MSNBC, CNN, etc. would be going nuts. Unfortunately, it is now acceptable for most news media outlets to openly support a political party which includes only reporting positive stories about one party and negative about other party. Geeeez, I remember when the news media was an independent source for real news - not anymore. Such a shame...

This country has been so polarized that it's non-functional. Even dangerous.

I know and like folks from both "sides", and we are all Americans. We need to live together and need a functional government run by us and that works for US!

You are so right vpnavy. If this sort of thing was going on when we had a Republican president we would never hear the end of it. Have we become such a dispassionate nation that we just don't care anymore or have we simply given up our rights because they have been trampled on so much we have no will to fight anymore? We should not be fighting each other.Like Bum Luck said,we are all Americans and as Americans both parties should be outraged.

Great comments Bum Luck and CoilyGirl. IMHO the news media has always been liberal but still attempted to report the news objectively. Unfortunately, and again - this is my personal opinion - our current Administration openly shows their anger towards the conservative party and acts accordingly. The press - seeing this - no longer feels the need to hide their true leanings and reports the news accordingly. They see what happens (i.e., FOX News, etc.) when you openly question the Administration - so why hide it any longer. I hope that the next election citizen's vote with the objective of making the USA a strong country again and not vote for personal gain.

OK

Coily that is the problem, one party and all of mainstream media continues to defend the abuse and tyranny of this administration no matter how outrageous it is.

If you don't have the courage to stand up and defend your rights and freedoms then you don't deserve to have them and someone will try to take them away like right now.......

I would be outrage at any party or leader was doing it....

If this happened under a republican president you would excuse it as being in the best interests of the country. Afterall that's what you all did when we invaded a sovereign nation under false pretense, destabilized an enitre region, and created a nightmarish quagmire that is 10 years running. Excuse after excuse.

And you continue to excuse it.

No I was screaming when bush past the unpatriot act. I was screaming that Nixon needed to be impeached and was mad when Ford pardoned him.

Attack on our rights is attack on our freedoms no matter who does it.

Who sent the first combat troops to Viet Nam, who escalated a war that ended up killing over 50k american lives?

I have heard this many times. However, wasn't the decision made on the intelligence at that time? Didn't the majority (Democrats and Republicans) vote in favor of this action? If their was in fact WMD's - didn't we give them enough time to move everything out of the country before we went in? Yes, the Republican's were in office so they will have to assume all the responsibility...

Excuse, - congress voted on it. Any idea how ridiculous this is? Congress only knew the information it was fed from the Bush admin.

Excuse - they had enough time to move them out of the country. Yeah under the most sofisticated surveillance system on the planet? Do you guys ever get tired of defending the indefensable?

I'll come up with one for you- Bigfoot took the WMDs and hid them. Gotta admit when it comes to hiding stuff, Bigfoot has got it down! this makes as much sense as any excuse forwarded by the Bush apologist.

Powell called being dupped by the faulty intel one of his greatest failures.

Thx for making my point.

There were trucks moving back and forth to Syria, any of them could have contain WMDs.

NF, if your wanting to place blame, your party is as guilty, they supported the war including Hillary.

NF We know he used WMDs on the Kurds If he had it were did it go? Or in your mind he only made a little bit? Then explain how did both sides get duped?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion(s) - that is what makes America great. Now, just so I know where you are coming from - do you still support your parties contention that the attack on Benghazi was not a terrorist attack?

You keep saying my party. You know something about me that I don't?

I'm not placing blame. i'm acknowledging the facts. Bush agenda to take out Saddam pre 911 is documented fact. His admin scapegoated their own anti terror expert after he outed their plan to invade by pinning 911 on Iraq. WMDs became the catalyst for war. The dems ( whoever's party they are,) were duped by faulty intel as were the repubs at the legislative level. We all bought the big lie.

There were tells that somebody way up the chain of command knew the truth about the WMDs. How so? Originally, there was no unit tasked to deal with WMDs in the invasion force. Let's take that apart. Why are we invading? To seize and destroy WMDs and to stop the future production of WMDs. WMDs are very dangerous and sofisticated weapons. They are produced in highly speacialized manufacturing facilities. Mishandling of these weapons could potentially put millions of people, including our own troops, in harms way. Yet, we've got not one person who is trained in how to deal with these things? Not only in how to properly handle these most dangerous of weapons, but even how to identify them? That make sense to you?

The oversight that there was no specialized force was caught late on and a unit of truck mechanics was given the task of disarming the WMDS. This with no training. That make sense to you? Kinda like sending the truck mechanics from Public Works over to deal with suspicious device found at the mall. That doesn't add up!

The truth is in the actions of government not the words of government. As the Bush admin banged the drum on WMDs it made no preparations to deal with them. Busted!!!

Lastly, the trucks to syria - excuse

Again thx for making my point.

Saddam's attacks on the Kurds and use of WMDs during the the war with Iran all happened in the 80's. After the Gulf War we found and destroyed large stockpiles of WMDs. That's where it went.

Bush said his greatest regret as President was the intelligence failure in Iraq. In 2008 the Senate Intelligence Committee saw it differently, finding that the Bush administration misrepresented the intelligence and threat from Iraq.

Want more information? Bob Woodward's book "Plan of Attack" is a good place to start.

Also google about an informant named Curveball
