Or some weird & crazy plum holder off an old marching band uniform hat...   :icon_scratch:

I like this explanation. Or maybe it is from an early militia shako.

I'm with plehbah.  Early militia shako--especially with the inverted flames on the bottom.

I don't have time to look for it now--going out for some Siberian Bottle Diggin today, hopefully...

But I'll do some looking when I get back.

Could we see a photo or two from a different angle?

turn the other way so flame is upward

that was my thought, I would agree with the hat piece theory, but its a WAG

Hope you don't mind, I just flipped your photo. I would have to agree with the flames theory.

Shako... Plahbah nailed it.

The "flame" piece is torn from the holder and jammed in upside down... I am possitive I see the tear marks...

Shako headgear was common throughout the world during the 18th century and was still in use in the US during the early 1900s. Still rarely used today at a few military school's and of course, common in the "band uniform".

Your piece, I believe, was brazzed together from broken ornamintation, a plume holder and ordanance style symbol, like I pictured above into that upside down flame thing you ended up with.

Your's resembles a CW or Indian War find.

I can't believe it's not crushed flat!

All this is speculation on my part.

no my buddy just put it like that (flame upside down ) in the picture because he thought thats how it went , i think it pulled off the the bomb part when he pulled it out of the hole. he is very new to colonial cellar detecting and finding relics ( he's use to park hunting only until i dragged him out , this was only the second time out with me) i told him to hang onto it as i was unsure myself but it looked familar . thanks everyone for taking alook ,Dan
