i have been a registered active free minner for well over 20 years. i know my rocks very well.
i am thinken the fire starter was used two fold, to start the initial fire and to use as the mold.
its only a theorie, any imput into the glass would help. :icon_study:
Oh yea, well I have been a registered active member of TN for over 5 years and I know my artifacts. After careful analysis of the evidence hitherto presented, I have concluded that it is a combination firestarter, moonface mold and Indian clam crusher. It may also have been utilized for its bark scraping capabilities.

Most respectfully yours,
Bigcypresshunter.

I'm with you, BigCy--and I'm done with this thread. Nice ID!

Looking back over your pics, I see that you have found 2 completely different thin brass stamped rings. Are you sure it came with one of them? Was it found inside it? It doesnt look like it fits properly.

Nope I think you have it right Hmmm. They used the fire starter to start the fire melt the glass and pour into the mold on the fire starter. Great conclusion. Go look for the glass mold of the moon face and do a follow up post.

Look. I openly apologize for my joking if I offended anyone. I was just trying to make a point about wild speculation. I am really trying to help but it becomes almost impossible at times if the backers of this Ancient relic theory will refuse to listen to suggestions, especially from those so much more qualified. I tried sending a PM.

i dont realy need to strike the pyrite to know if it will spark.

...i have been a registered active free minner for well over 20 years. i know my rocks very well.
I cant go back and search because so much has been deleted, but wasnt it Relicdude that first suggested that it might be Pyrite? I hate to bring this back when it was starting to die out but this is bugging me a little as to whether it might possibly spark or not. I am thinking it is some kind of metallic putty with reinforcing fibres that hardened around a pipe to fill a void. I dont know what kinda rock would have fibres embedded into it. Unless its moss and thats easy enough to test.

the big question is, is it some kind of metallic putty with reinforcing fibres that hardened around a pipe to fill a void. or a atztic artifact, we already know what "big yellow cedar hunter" says it is. i personaly dont agree with the whole puddy thing.

Believe it or not, Im trying to help. Im not here to make enemies. This is my hobby, where I share and learn. Is it so hard to see if it sparks? You seem to be purposely refusing any test that may help solve this.

The metallic putty thing is just a theory. I understand your firestarter/mold is just a theory. You realize the clam tool was just a joke and I apologized. Some big sparks would help bring me to your side. At this point, Im not sure now that I would believe you anyway. Maybe the others are right and I should give up trying to help.

ADDED: I am following your post with interest in the Indian Artifact section but there is not one helpful comment. The bark scraper idea has been deleted. I was hoping for something. ...anything that could help you.

I Could be convinced it is from the 1860's, possibly victorian, but have not realy seen the evidance to suggest victorian. i am open to evidance :coffee2:.

As far as the hole thingy, Im almost convinced now that its gray epoxy with metallic fibres. It could have come from a boat and has some erosion. I can see the lip slightly elevated on the front side and beveled on the back, which would be consistant with trying to patch a hole around a 1 inch pipe such as from a bilge pump... http://www.pcepoxy.com/puttyepoxies/pcmetal.asp
