Idaho Dredgers take a stand

South West Idaho Mining
May 30
WE'VE been hearing that a lot of claim owners are getting harassed by the BLM/USFS on their claims about camping. Well in their own Regulations book it states this:

§3715.2 What activities do I have to be engaged in to allow me to occupy the public lands?
In order to occupy the public lands under the mining laws for more than 14 calendar days in any 90-day period within a 25-mile radius of the initially occupied site, you must be engaged in certain activities. Those activities that are the reason for your occupancy must:

(a) Be reasonably incident;

(b) Constitute substantially regular work;

(c) Be reasonably calculated to lead to the extraction and beneficiation of minerals;

(d) Involve observable on-the-ground activity that BLM may verify under §3715.7; and

(e) Use appropriate equipment that is presently operable, subject to the need for reasonable assembly, maintenance, repair or fabrication of replacement parts.

So go tell them to reread their training manuals...

I'm copying this and printing my self a card size laminate so I can present it if asked. Nice work.

Yep hope to see you (DLS) up there in Riggins. even though you don't have a dredge yet maybe we can hook up and you can use some time on my 6" to get you started out .

So we have another raffle item. It was donated by Ray at Finders keepers prospecting shop in Nampa, ID. He has all your mining supplies and will be more than fair with ya on prices! Give Ray a shout. He is authorized to be a dealer for all the mining stuff we usually need! He is pleasantly stocked and friendly! Thanks ray at Finders keepers in Nampa! You rock!

Can you elaborate on what is going to happen ? - or a link? Thanks in advance

I don't mean just at the advertised event, I mean longer term - who is on the miners side at the capitol ? Who is going to dredge for the whole season? Is
there long-range strategy going on ?, etc.

i sent you a PM Fullpan you can check out that link. and you can get that info from the person that has them written down that way i don't get them wrong. there is a lot of them that is going to stay on the river after the event.

we are have issues with the IGPA out of boise and the GPAA out of nampa they want to bark about the rules but stand back and not support this event! they will not let us even speak at there meetings to get the right info out to the members. and still look for new members. but they will listen to bad rumors. we have GPAA in other states support but from these. Hope The long range goal is to get the EPA out of here and stop over reaching there authority where ever they go. Hope this helps.

I'm still planning on attending but I need more more more weight!
I was considering buying one of the 20# weight vest at walmart to go in conjunction with the 60# belt I have...crap floats so I need lots of weight to hold me down!
I don't know how much weight I need.. half my body weight? If I'm 210 then I need 105?
I'm wanting to hit the fast water and if it's anything like the SF Payette right now...it's going to be deep and fast. Its already summer and the SFP is still way above the normal water flow mark by several feet.

Methodology is more important than weights. Trench into the fast waters and follow bedrock in whenever possible. 5 lb leg/ankle weight will hold ya like you'd never believe ,shot vest help too . Keep as much weight possible off your lower spine as you'll end up with a messed up back like mine from many 10,000s a hours with 65-105 lbs. Boat anchor ahead chained to your belt is cool too as you swing into your hole and swing back out. Many ways....John

I'm personal friends with the Prez of the IGPA. You cannot help our cause showing up at meetings unannounced, armed in a hotel that doesn't allow open carry. You have to schedule these things a couple months in advance because they only have one meeting a month and they talk about all off the stuff that has happened in the previous month with very little time for guest speakers. I have been spreading the word slowly and not all of these people stand on the side of freedom as we do. They joined a club for a reason, they like to know the rules and they like to feel like they belong. Nuff said. Unfortunately many live under the impression that the govt knows best for them and they couldn't be more wrong.

I think back to the days when I was active in the local rockhounding club. There was this old fart who was always screaming to "fight the feds" on a Natural
Wilderness Study Area located up in the Black Rock Desert. I, like most members, just wanted to camp out and eat "s'mores" around the campfires and find
pretty rocks to take home. Well, we can no longer access that area, and that old fart failed to motivate any in the club to fight the feds. I think local prospecting clubs are not fertile grounds for activism - but some individuals in the clubs can be won over. - my 2 cents.

Absolutely. Your 2 cents are worth a buck

BOISE -- Idaho is starting the process of taking over wastewater permitting from the federal Environmental Protection Agency, under a law that quietly cleared the Idaho Legislature earlier this year.
The Spokesman-Review reports the change means Idaho will have to add an estimated 25 employees to the state Department of Environmental Quality over the next eight years. The state must also pass laws, set fees and penalties and show that it has the funding and capability to operate the wastewater permit program before the federal agency will hand over authority.
Idaho is one of only four states that currently have the EPA running their wastewater permitting programs. The other three are Massachusetts, New Mexico and New Hampshire.

New guy here.

I will be in Riggins on the 4th of July weekend to support the Dredgers... Not to mention Riggens is a kickazz place go and just hangout.

I am also a long time member of the Nampa GPAA. The Nampa GPAA had a surprise change in President a few months back (at least it was a surprise to me) and there was a noticeable change in the direction the club is now headed.
I am kinda of surprised that the current Nampa GPAA president is not more supportive of this action, but to each their own. Most of the Club Members I know support this action in Riggins.

@littlenugget1,
Don't get too happy about this new Idaho waste water permitting law. The devil is in the details and this law has a lot of "details" in it, one of which is forcing the Idaho regulators to follow the EPA regulations... So what you get is just the State enforcing the EPA Regulations... and as far as I am concerned it is the EPA regulations that are severely onerous and need to be rewritten.

I hope your media spokesmen have rehearsed their message. Its all about perception right now. A little emotional appeal from a struggling mother wouldn't hurt - "My husband is trying to put food on the table..." etc. and kids, and babies - you get the idea..

As far as I know there are several "Spokesmen" involved. The Idaho Recreational Counsel seems to be spearheading the effort and they have some very good people.

It is hard to get the message out about Dredging, when your competing against the lies of those against Dredging.
Not too long ago I was at an Idaho State Legislator Hearing where an Ex-EPA Environmental scientist (Retired) testified that dredging (when following common sense guidelines) was NOT harmful to fish or the environment.
Yet the opponents of Dredging (The EPA and their allies) will have you think that disturbing the sand and gravel in the bottom of a stream from just placing a human foot in it will release pollutants and damage beyond repair the fish and environment. Of course this is bunk, but tell them that and they scream at you that your trying to kill Mother Earth.
So even talking about Dredging with these people is like talking Athisim with the Pope... You just never seem to understand each other.
