I beleive the chanin is/was gold plated b/c it is flaking off everywhere. The charm has something molded in the backside, looks like numbers. Primary Interest: All Treasure Hunting Apr 12, 2009 #3 On chains, if it is silver or gold, there will be info on the clasp. You need a real good jewelers loupe to see them sometimes though.
