Heres proof on why you should dig your overloads. Old Remington Pistol?

I got out for a 2 day hunt this weekend. it was a great hunt for the 2 of us. Lots of buttons, lead, and good company. I also got a first for me. Well a couple of firsts. But this is a good reason why you should dig your overloads. That pistol overloaded on me and I decided Ill dig this one. Im glad I did!! It looks like a Remington to me.

The gun is art..... How long do you suppose it takes to do that?

Congrats. That gun is a beautiful find.Because of the history of it.HH

Looks like a great hunt. Looks like a key hole with the swinging cover in the last picture. Some sweet finds

Not sure what you mean when you say your detector "overloads". Please explain.

ouch , that's gonna leave a mark .. the entire pistol barrel and portion of the cylinder blew apart :o

I don't think it blew apart. I think that's all the rust that is on it. I have the pieces to the end of the barrel. Most of them I think.

You've got some good looking finds there, the pistol is awesome! That piece that has the crown with the "F" below it looks interesting, have any idea what that is from? Thanks for sharing.

It's a keyhole cover from a smokehouse lock.

That pistol is a DREAM FIND! Killer!

Congrats,

Buck

When I get an overload I raise my coil up higher off the ground that helps me decide what maybe there. Most of the time it is a beer or pop can but you never know what it might be.

Some detectors give an "overload" readout or signal when they pass over a large, usually near the surface target. It is often soda or beer cans, and often ignored for digging because of this. This is why the OP says it's good to dig "overloads" because his machine said overload yet he dug anyways and found the pistol. I usually ignore such signals when hunting in parks for coins, but never do while relic hunting.

Darn.... I got an overload on my Whites Spectrum near the entrance to my cave I'm exploring. But when we ran Franks Minelab over the area we found nothing. But I'm assuming we ran his over the area my overloaded on. NOW I GOT TO CHECK AGAIN!!!!!

Nice find Marine, is that weapon for fighting or for fun?! Great lesson for newbies and reminder for old timers, dig every signal or chance passing up goodness
