Hi All,

As the title says I don't have a clue. I dug this yesterday and after cleaning it up some, it is to something the way all the markings are. The bird is pretty cool on it. With this elaborate of markings it is part of something. It is probably something easy and I can't think of it. Anyways thanks for looking and helping if you can.

if it was a match I would have stated so.please read my posts above as they explain in detail why its posted.thx bch.
OK then its no match. I dont even see the same shape. I was really trying to see what you are looking at and Im straining my eyes. Maybe you need to circle it or something for slow and blind members like myself. :laughing7:

Tip: do not copy directly from images. Open the link or pic to full size and then copy it. Thanks

if just a bracelet the brazing points would be left unexplained, hence imho I believe it to be a part of a whole..:icon_thumright:
True. I also think we need better focused pics of the possible brazing marks.

Nope. Its just a name tag.

bigfoot you can hover your mouse over the eBay image to zoom in.

IMHO you can keep searching this theory but keep in mind that its not from a bamboo birdcage just because it has bamboo and a bird image on it.

Hi All,

Well when I got home today, I was able to open up it up. I took pics of what it looks like now front and back hope this helps some. I posted all the pics I took in case someone spots something in one of the pics. Again thanks for all the help. Oh it was also fairly easy to bend open just so you all know.

Hello Bubba. Your pics will be better if you use a darker background like blue or green. A white background makes for a poor pic with most autofocus cameras that try to compensate by making the image too dark. Also be sure to use your Macro setting. Outside daylight is best.

Can you tell if it is broken on one edge?

bch...I never even considered it was from a bamboo cage...in fact I never claimed it is from anything. The motif has me searching in several directions.I feel that the spot brazing marks are key.I'm not researching a bunch of things,I'm focusing on this one mostly.I still feel that the japanese birdcage avenue has some merit.I would not be at all surprised if it was other than that.prolly is.I am simply taking a tack that others arent.
ty for advice on pics...appreciate it...:icon_thumright:

Hi. thanks BCH about the comment of the pics. I usually take pics in macro and hold in hand so hopefully these are much better. Also the one end is broken so the piece was longer then what it is now.

ty bubba,
we can clearly see a pattern in the spot brazing marks....this may turn out to be key.I love a good mystery and your timely help make it even more fun.we will likely eventually get to the heart of this one because of your efforts...:icon_thumright:

btw...I think I clearly see a birdcage in image now....he he...just guessing

I will submit that there is a pattern to the brazing marks.they have a similar spacing, even one space missing.I believe it it possible to assume that it was attached to something that had evenly spaced points of attachment.I have looked at period cages for birds from japan and came up with this for your consideration....

bcage 1.webp....bcage 2.webp...bcage 3.webp...is it possible that this is what the image in the brass stamping is depicting?

interesting ,, it looks like the white marks if they are brazing marks ,, are on the outside and not the inside ...
and there is a pattern to the marks.
glad to see ya got it straightend out bubba

One of the biggest clues is the rounded edge. We should be looking for something with one or maybe 2 rounded edges. Its very thin and easily bendable. Im leaning toward some kind of copper band.

And Im not so sure they are brazing marks. They may be other corrosion marks. Can you try cleaning them with water and a soft brush?

Hello bigfoot. Cut the crap already. I hope I am not disrespecting you but you posted about 10 pictures of birdcages and over 10 posts talking about them. And now you try to deny it? Most of the pics are too tiny to even view. I dont believe you have shown any evidence to support your birdcage theory bamboo or otherwise and you would still be posting pics of birdcages and talking about birdcages if I hadnt interveined.. Geez.

I believe it depicts a hummingbird in the bamboo. As it was a common theme in early bamboo birdcages it is possible this was a closure clasp for a cage.a simple guess.....

Calm down bigfoot and I will try to do the same.

I am completely within my rights to disagree with your theory especially when you havent proven it. What good does it do to post a dozen bird cages? Find your best example or 2 and post it please.
