Got old dog tags?

Can anyone give me any info on this dog tax tag, such as what it may be worth. IMAG0186_BURST002_COVER_1[1].jpg

Nice tag. I think NY started the dog tax/tag a year or two before green bay. It should be a rare tag.

Here is a ugly one I found today. Made out of aluminum. #60

Here are all the tags I've dug over the years. My first tag I dug (found on top of the ground at a construction site) is my oldest 1889,1891,1892,1896,1898,1911,1912

WOW ~ such awesome tags!

There recently was a 1892 Casselton ND tag that sold on eBay that was the same dog head planchet as your 1892 Dallas tags. The Casselton tag sold for $444!!

This isn't an old tag but felt it's worthy to share because this is the very first thing I've found since taking up the hobby. It's been cold, snow with 6" more on the way tomorrow, and frozen ground. I found this 10 days ago in my back yard when the temps spiked for one day allowing for a dig. I can't wait for spring. I live in Hannibal, MO.

YEAH ~ that is a great find! It doesn't have to be super old to be cool!

The oldest known dog tax tag from Hannibal MO is dated 1898! Now I challenge you to go beat that ~ I'm sure there's one out there dated 1897 or older!

GOOD LUCK!

I found this tag last week. Interesting that it is the first that I have found for my city and it seems that I am finding them elsewhere. It is for North Little Rock, AR and is dated 1969. I didn't know that they were still requiring these so recently!

That is a cool find!

FYI ~ the oldest known tag from North Little Rock AR is dated 1923!

This is one I dug a while back. It's not too terribly old. It's from Shasta County in California expired 6-30-67 No.486
I have a dog that used to be my father-in-laws. I had promised my father-in-law I'd take care of his dog if my f-i-l passed away. Well, he passed some years back but I still have his dog. The dog will need to be put down soon as he is VERY old and looks it. I've been thinking about putting this license on the dog when I take him to the vet. :)

YEAH ~ cool find! And a cool story about your F I L 's dog!

Your tag was issued mid 1966.

FYI ~ the oldest known dog tag from Shasta Co. CA is 1917! WOW

odd..............how do you know when it was issued? I tried calling to see if I could locate the owners but they didn't have records. Just wondering.

They issued tags one year at a time. Most agencies only did it from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 ~ but some of the larger agencies would issue full year tags mid year. Like yours expired June 30, 1967 ~ the person that bought it may have moved there mid year or got their dog mid year so they paid full tax and didn't have to renew again until mid the next year.
