This specimen was found in upstate New York, around Hanson Quarry. Any ideas? I was told the crystal is barite, the drusy is epidote. No clue if that is correct. Also looking to identify the light green. Very unique pattern.

Looks like someone took a branding iron to flesh to me. Somehow it hardened to a rock like state.

I'm no expert. Just my guess.

Hi, Im new to forums and new to Treasure Net. I would love some help evaluating a few photos. Im from N.E Ga. And recently aquired a Gold and Mineral obsession and I haven't gone pasted the street I live on yet. The photos are a sampling from my yard and surrounding woods. I have a creek too.

Do these look like they could have gold? Im thinking fine gold. I have found alittle visable gold in quartz and in shist along with lots of mica.im having trouble attaching photos.

Is this what I need to look for?

That white quartz can have gold in it, but Im no geologist.

I'm thinking you are putting the cart before the horse by collecting larger rocks if your goal is to find gold. Your first goal should be to try to determine if your creek, or any others near you, has any placer gold in it and that is best done by sampling the creek(s) and then panning those samples to see if they contain gold then further pursue (placer mine) those areas in your efforts. That said, and to satisfy your curiosity, you can crush, screen and pan some of the rocks you have collected to determine if they contain any gold but again...your best bet to accumulate gold is by placering.

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Very interesting piece. It almost looks like some hieroglyphics was stamped into it but it is probably a natural inclusion that is exposed by erosion. Maybe a local rock shop can tell you what type of rock it is. I would keep it as a curiosity piece.

Hello, I have a rock my dad found in North Eastern Kansas and the only thing I can find on the interwebs that looks even remotely like it is raw platinum but i took it by a precious metal and gem shop and they said it wasn't heavy enough or dense enough to be a precious metal and had no idea what it was. I'm far from an expert, but this rock feels a lot heavier than most other common rocks of the same size. It measures 6" x 4.5" x 7" and weighs about 18lbs. The surface has directional lines on it that make it look like it has been in a liquid or semi liquid state at one time and has small holes that i can only best describe as worm holes in it. They appear to mostly be on the outside of it though where i broke a small piece off there are a couple on the very edge and the middle looks to be pretty solid.

Any ideas?
