Possible calcite or selenite also. Cannot tell from the picture. Need side view and high quality close up. Does is flake off in sheets?

This one has me stumped. Found this fist- sized rock on a rocky beach on the north shore of Sammish Island, one of Washington State's San Juan Islands. The highly polished surface is just as I found it. White spots on the second shot appear to be locations barnacles had attached, but died and been displaced before the stone was collected. (The coin is a U.S. quarter.) A pen knife will scratch it, it streaks a dark green on the bottom of my wife's China plate, has a specific gravity of 2.57. I made a thin section, (but cannot vouch absolutely for the thickness thereof), which is pictured in crossed polarized light, and again, xpl with a full wave plate. Any clear candidates?20210123_190927.jpg20210123_190841.jpg20210123_191213.jpg20210123_191244.jpg

It's virtually impossible to confirm from a picture. A pretty fail safe test you can do is to check what you suspect may be gold in full and shaded light. Gold will retain its color in any lighting which is unlike any other element or mineral. They lose any hint of gold coloring in shaded light.

Found this in the mountains. Thought it was interesting
