Streak test it:
Brown - Limonite,
Reddish - Hematite,
Blackish - Magnetite (also magnetic)

Quartz with sulphides. Maybe pyrite and/or oxidized galena. Galena would have cleavage and be very shiny.

Yep - quartz, iron, pyrite, sulfur - not much galena, but has quite a bit of the coloradoite.

Not seeing galena.. galena is a darker grey, either shiny when fresh or dull when oxidized.

Found this with several others like it on a island while camping. Is it one of those rocks (forget the name) where lighting hits the ground and forms these rocks with a hole through them? It isn't iron, I put in under my detector and it didn't beep.

It appears to be made of crystal and hollow like a geode, but I've never seen a geode smooth on the inside.

Hi everyone!
Im new to this forum, but you guys seem active here so i jumped in ��

Found some good old hard rocks and inside of them was something interesting..:



Identifying by picture is hard but can someone give advise is that the real deal or not?


PS: The stone was in our campfire, so its very brittle. On other bits you can see also layers of that inside the rock.

Not seeing galena.. galena is a darker grey, either shiny when fresh or dull when oxidized.

If you can tell that by color alone, I assume a career change is in order!
Do the typical tests and see what goes.

Don't think it's a fulgurite. More like limonite or something along those lines.

Since it's brittle, crush and pan some. I'm thinking mica.

found this, the black is very smooth, the amber is as well, the other grayish rock is not. I can attach more pictures if needed, please help! I have had this rock for years thinking its something special
