Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

Not sure what this rock is. Seems to be mostly manganese ...well, at least its purple when crushed to powder. Really hard to break even after roasting. Has some iron oxides. Had some pyrite before roasting.

Well, it could be something related to the Heterosite & Purpurite series of minerals. They form as iron or manganese are oxidized from granites, if memory serves.
There's also the odd chance it could be a silver-mineral; Pyrargyrite.

That's the best I can do.

I found this in a lake putting in my dock in northwest Wisconsin. It is 9 1/2"W x 12"H x 8" thick.
Was buried in sand except an inch showing.

If it stumps a geologist, I don't feel bad that I can't id it!

I'm wondering if it could be manganite and/or pyrolusite with quartz and iron oxide.

Not sure if it helps, but the area this rock is from also has an out cropping of gabbro ...Balitmore Gabbro Complex (or at least a couple big boulders sticking out of the ground). Region sits pretty much on the fall line between the piedmont plateau and coastal plain. Was an alluvial plain, I think. Also, might have a small bit of gold on it unless it's just pyrite that somehow survived roasting.

Hello. I’m new to the forums. My grandfather was a rock hound and he passed away last year. He left behind a lot of rocks and for the most part, I know what they are. This is a bolo tie slide that I just can’t figure out what kind of stone it is. I was thinking some sort of jasper maybe? Thanks in advance for any help!ACCCF6DC-4575-4181-BAEC-F363E247490B.jpeg

It's the purple powder I based my guess on. Mind you, I can only guess. For any degree of real accuracy, it needs to be viewed in person.

PS. I'm not a geologist... I'm a prospector. :)

Might be enamel.

My brother gave me this rock but didn’t remember how he got it. I think it may be a chunk of petrified wood but I’m not sure. Any idea?

This is what I found in a lake in South Carolina, around 6 ft by 6 ft. What rock is it? Thanks a lot.

Please advise if the below rocks/stones look gold ore or rocks that contain gold. Thanks.

Hi, I wondered if someone kind person might be able to tell me what this is? I found it on a beach and whilst I suspect it's nothing special, I found it curious because of the way the two layers have been fused together. Kind regards and thanks. _20180714_085639.JPG

Found this in my front flower bed buried in about 2 feet of hard MD clay. I find LOTS of rocks/minerals, but this one looked different from the rest.

It looks to me it is a granite that contains big chunks of quartz.

not sure if I'm doing this right... First timer so bear with me haha!
Please help me identify the following.... Found.in the mountains in Oregon. Let me know if you need any additional photos info or whatever!

#1, #2, #4, 6-9 -- all look to me that they're granite rocks.
#3 -- Peridotite or Gabbro.
#5 -- it looks like a tuff.
#10 -- quartz

here's a rock I found in a river, if you couldDSCN1025[1].jpg identify it for me I would really appreciate it, thanks. It's about the size of a grapefruit.
