I don't even know where to begin! My buddy Phil and I got back onto the field where I've been hunting for the past month. It's a generational site and today certainly proved that! We started in a new area and Phil almost immediately found a piece to a sword guard. A couple minutes later he found another part of the guard. I commented to him that there is probably more and that I was going to find the pommel...and sure enough 3 feet from the other pieces I found the pommel! I am very pleased with that as it's a relic I've always wanted to find!

We decide to fan out looking for more and a couple minutes later I have old silver in the hole! It's a 1676 French 4 Sol! This is actually the second 1676 4 Sol I've found.

Found a lot of lead including a couple ingots and hogue cylindrical piece. Think they were making buttons at this site.

Near the end of the day we start making our way back to the car and within 30 feet I get a nice high silver tone. I pop the plug and there it is...big American silver! This is extremely rare in my area (Nova Scotia) and I could not believe the date! Amazing condition as well!!!

That's the kind of hunt I dream about every time I head out the door detecting! Awesome!

that capped bust half is a beast! If no one here can ID the Overton number I can post it on another chat forum if you'd like. Congrats on such a scarce coin to find!

Please do! Thanks!

Yup those early american coins don't show up to often...Congrats, sweet hunt!

Hey Romeo an OUTSTANDING HUNT indeed, two super coins !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on the Capped Half I too got one earlier in the year in pretty good shape other then it being signed, so I think Don's thoughts are right on that one. :icon_thumleft:

There were 2 experimental edges being used. In between the words on the circular edge of the coin, there were either "xxxx" or "IIII". Very small and hard to see. If you have a loop it's easier. Adds 10-15% to the value of the coin. If you don't see either, than it's a "plain edge". Look close to where it says "FIFTY" and, or "HALF".

Doesn't appear to be an experimental...

You got that right, the British and Spanish coins of that era seem to be the norm for us, the French and US are the ones we can almost never find. Romeo, you had a very special day out there today!

My that's some nice BIG Silver you got there.
Congrats on another 1600's too !!

This would be a dream hunt for me, Congrats on some awesome finds.:headbang:
