Arizona - Is there any other state worth visiting
Detector(s) used
Fisher Gold Bug Pro, Nokta FORS Gold, Garrett ATX, Sun Ray Gold Pro Headphones, Royal Pick, Etc.
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
I am about to build a 60" x 12" x 4" X 0.80 Sluice using Gold Hog Mats. The Sluice will sit under my 12" trommel and will be fed by shovel or 5 gallon buckets. Will be using a pump that can deliver nearly 8000 GPH. Please take a look at the image. I had contacted Doc at Gold Hog and he suggested the configuration in the image below. At the end of the Sluice will be a Fluid Bed Gold Trap. The material that we are digging can range from flake gold to 1/4" diameter gold. The trommel will be classifying to 1/2" before dumping into the Sluice. I would like some input from those who are using the Gold Hog Mats, your thoughts, idea's, what your using, how your using the mats, etc. Thank You In Advance

Wow Keith.
That'd be awesome. Here I wasn't expecting anything. Just wanted to do something good for somebody. Then possibly do some prospecting/detecting in a new area.

How did the barrels work out for you Garrett? Also the buckets of material you took back did sluice the material? I know the conditions that day were terrible and not a great day to be out in the weather. Nevertheless to say it was great meeting someone and placing a face to a screen name that I have talked to online for a long time.

Yeah we didn't sluice anything there, but i know they'll come in handy for next trip. Maybe in a couple weeks. So far only a couple fly poops from a test hole down stream. I've still got the others to do yet still.
I think I've got to wash the dirt to get rid of clumps and clay. Then run through sluice. That's where the trammel would work great. Or if I had a hopper on my sluice. Maybe my next gift to self. Going to talk to Jay about that. See if he could do one for small amount of cash. Lol.

Garrett were you going down to Jeff's claim on the 15th? Are you in need of some 5 buckets?
I could use some. I've picked up a couple more buckets, but as I picked up more others are breaking. Plus my totes are disintegrating. Lol. That's what I get for buying the cheaper totes.

I'm playing with an idea to use a tool box that fits in the truck to use as the water and sluice setup. So basically I'd put some rods on the side of the box to put the sluice on. I'd have the sluice run into one end and have the slurry go to the middle portion (while I have a sloped screen that lets the washed material go over the side) and have my pumps on the opposite side of the box. Plus have a couple mesh screens to catch debris and keep from the pumps. That way all of the unit could be one unit. Just take out of the truck. Add water. Adjust to level. Then walah. Just run material. The fun part would be shoveling out the slurry. But at least that'd be at the end. I'm thinking that with the box itself being so long, that it will give the water time to clear up a bit. This idea came to me when I was on way back from rich hill. I've never seen this before, and thought that it'd be a great way to transport a complete unit. I even think adding a plug in the bottom and putting in some sheets to keep sludge flowing towards the plug. When finished. You pull the plug and let the water wash the sludge out. That of coarse, means to put some feet or wheels on the bottom. That way I could get the plug out.
So what do ya think, is this doable? Of coarse the unit is empty when putting in and out of truck.

I have them in my new power-sluice .We have only ran 30 buckets through it. We were pre classifying because we didn't have a pump so no spray bar. We had to carry material to it any ways I'm ok with less yet heavier buckets. The increase amount of superfine gold we captured compared to what my drop riffle captures was ridiculous. Though I have never ran that much material through any sluice on our claim. so far pretty sweet. I have ur-ur-bedrock-scrubber- scrbbr- bedrock-scrbbr-ur. There was no razorback when I bought them at PLACERVILLE HARDWARE.. I might pick some up and switch it up. It was clearing awesome and the material was dancing beautifully so could see the exchange it is pretty cool. GOOD STUFF DOC:headbang:
