do you know the date of this wreck-if it had a steam engine-i have found items like this associated with low pressure steam engines-on the top of your item it looks as tho it is soldered or brazed together-and threads on bottom for securing ,just a thought.

Hi,

Yes, we believe that it might have been a steamer as we found quite a few firebricks associated with the wreck, but we could not find the boiler. We were thinking that it was recovered long ago or it just sank in the soft soil. Plan to dive it again and hope that the visibility is better in the spring than when we first found it as it was hard to see it clearly.

It could be part of the handle for the coal shovel. I will need to do some serious search and recover this spring and see if we can find the rest of it. Should be real interesting as I plan to buy a metal detector and continue with our survey of the site this spring.
