I'm trying to identify this piece. Found today in Alabama on a site that has been dated to 5000+ B.P.
Maybe St. Charles Dovetail? It is 9 1/2" long. The other points were found a few hundred yards away. I just added them in the picture because I like them.
Any ideas?

That is INCREDIBLE!! Been telling people for a long time that these HUGE points exist! Most of your authenticators will turn a nose if you tell them you have a St. Charles/Dovetail that large even if you dug it out of the ground yourself. I have one as well my friend and would like to share photo's with you. It has been papered twice from experts on opposite sides of the country. I have collectors who contacted me from Iowa last week setting up a time to come and see mine. I have multiple 5-7''. Once again CONGRATS!!!! Keep it close my friend.

Must be our lucky day I found some just like yours

Tony - That's a huge point. If I were you (and I'm not) I'd temper my expectations as it's definitely possible that someone is playing a trick on you. I don't doubt you found it but it doesn't appear to be old, nor do the other points in the picture.

once in a lifetime finds

did he say he was with someone?

No one was playing a trick, and the site is very, very old. I can understand your reticence, but I can assure you that this is authentic. I'm just trying to figure out which type it is. This is not a place that anyone has access to, so nothing has been "planted". If you take the time to look at some of my other posts, you'll get an understanding of the types of things that are being found at this site. I'm not a seller or buyer, just looking for some info!

Amazing point, It is also amazing that it's not broken. I usually just find halves.

I don't know if it's a St. Charles, it just looks like an example I saw online. I don't buy or sell, and tend to get my authentication from archaeologists that I associate with. I'd probably strangle an authenticator if he told me I didn't find it or it was a fake. I'd love to see what you have!

Yes, good thing the shovel didn't get it.

Is this all at the same site? The pics and description of your other post made it seem like a well wooded area that trees were chopped at but this one looks like there's a lot of sandy soil in background. Also all of these points have a similar flat spot in the middle of them .... Every flint or quartz point I have found you can see the chip marks and flaking on every part of the point.

Actually, the stem was sticking out of a clay mound pushed up by a fallen tree. I can't fathom the odds against it surviving intact.

The large one isn't flat, it's slightly rounded on its face and almost beveled on one edge. Two of the Bolen-type points have chips missing on one side, and they were all found in a logged area, so I'm sure the equipment damaged them. There are literally hundreds of partial and intact points that are lying around in the disturbed area, but we only have a few months before the growth of the new trees will inhibit any further exploration. It stinks, but it's the reality.

It's a blessing and a curse! Blessed to have it, cursed by obsession. Unfortunately, the area has been replanted after extensive logging and most of it will be inaccessible in a few months. We're hustling!

. I will send you a few photos tomorrow. Way to light it up man!

There is not one Point in that picture that is ancient or authentic.
