This is the 5th new Roman Site we have discovered this year, but all the others were either cleared out or low status. We have had permission for this land for many years but have never done the leg work until today. At least 1 other Detectorist does this land & they have reported finding very little.:laughing7:
Cru'dad had scouted this area yesterday & apart from the Roman Pottery, he only got a Crotal Bell,Bullet, Lead Seals & not much else. However, he left our Archy intel until today & armed with the GPS we dropped right down into a great area. We have tried about 20 of these Archy targets this year & this is the last one on the list & by far the best!:icon_thumright:

In only 5 hours:

30 Roman Bronze Coins
5 Roman Silver-4 by me, thats our best 1 day total & my personal best as well! 2 x Gordian III, 2 x Elagabalus, 1 Faustina Junior
1929 Sixpence
Crotal Bell (yesterday)
13th C Annular Brooch & pin
Broken Roman Folding Knife
Roman Enamelled Stud
Roman Fantail Fibula piece
Star Find by me very early in the hunt (10 minutes) - Stylized Bronze Votive Lion Figurine:headbang:

Just the day we needed when options were drying up!

Wow. Nice finds my friend. Quite a lot of history in your finds.

We joked about a Roman Gold from this site, but the ratio of silver/gold Roman is unknown to us, we have a good grip on the silver/bronze, but the only Roman Gold we know about from the local area, came from a random field & no site.
Yes, just 3.6 miles away! Getting closer to Roman gold . Wesfront has a point, what will the next hunt produce? :headbang:

Amazing hunt! You definitely live in an area full of history, hope your next is just as good!

I am digging the lion tha is darn neat .. happy huntinn

Outstanding! I imagine just one Roman silver is enough to make it a great hunt...5 is just spectacular!

Yes, the first one I got on the way back to the car at lunchtime after a 3.5 hour hunt, so the day was polished off at that point. Never thought we would get another 4 in 1.5 hours, thats just crazy thinking.

Another incredible day Cru ! The portrait bust of Faustina is remarkable - very well rendered . Good luck next outing !!

Coin pictures now added to top.

Hello Crusader. NICE, great hunting there and more to discover I hope. I have never had a 5-silver day of any kind let alone Roman silver. Thanks for the post and good luck. C9

We hope to discover much more, not only in this field but the 2 we can't search until harvest next year.

You're like Buffalo Bill in a cowboy movie of metal detecting .
What kind of place is this that you're getting all these coins from an open public market place ?

Good day  we were getting multiple silvers when we first found our villa site. I take it you declared the silvers as Treasure.

We are unsure at this point, but its a settlement of unknown size.

Thankfully, none of them GPSed close to each other so the close proximity rule in the case is not valid. The 2 Gordian's for example were 200+ metres away from each other.
As this is a new farmer, in terms of showing all our finds, we are unsure at this stage if these will be included in the finds that we share direct with the British Museum Coin Department. Only time will tell. Some do, some don't & we respect the wishes of the land owner.

What a silver haul!! Don't you love it when others say you won't find anything on a site? That puts me on a mission to prove them wrong, and you certainly did that with your site.
