There are tons of scrap everywhere its gonna be hard to find the good stuff. I don't think there's to many homeless people around maybe some hood rats, Or a few Meth heads lol

last time I went to the scrap yard basic steel/ iron scrap was .12 cents a pound. you may want to save everything, if you got the room. you might want to watch out for bigfoots too, looks like just type of place one might find some solitude from the noisy human neighbors. I don't suspect aliens to be a problem there, unless they are the illegal kind. Ghosts, now thems a different story altogether, The place could be crawling with ghosties and spirits. The consolation is that most ghosts and Bigfoots don't tend to bother humans, beyond the initial scare. You may also wish to keep an eye out for snakes, I don't remember if I read which part of the country your looking in, but snakes could be a big concern. My best advice, always go with a buddy and make sure you can run faster than your friend. can't wait to see your first finds.

Looks like you will be finding some good stuff soon. HH!

First place I would detect is the long area of grass between the street and the rr tracks,, in the lower center of the old photo. Like others said anyplace people may of ate lunch. Maybe there was a picnic table, a spot were employes would take brakes.

Sweet place, well if you ever wanna get a group together let me know. I live by Seymour, Indiana.

As others have already suggested - a place this large and iron /junk metal infested- will call for refining your search areas to locate likely
coin drop areas - finding the old parking area (hitching posts !) is a good one. Good job on finding the old photo - get more of those
to help you see what is no longer visible !

Super spot! You'll probably find silver there as well as locks & tools. However, DO NOT go there alone! If you can't find folks on t-net that live close enough to detect that railroad area with you, convince a friend to come with you as your guard-lookout. I don't live in high crime area, but even so there's several isolated favorite spots where I NEVER go unless my son or hubby accompany me. Son & I often detect together, but hubby thinks detecting is strange hobby so when he comes as my guard-lookout, he brings his radio earphones for music or news, lol. Your getting hurt isn't worth any prize you might dig from the ground! Andi

What part on Indiana are you in? I'm in Louisville and might be able to make the trip to help explore the site. Thanks...........David

I don't think you need more resources than some good hunches, perseverance and stubbornness. Go to it!

Wow thats awesome!Don't be discouraged, definitely may hit alot of trash but there should be some good stuff there you just have to be persistent....and if you get frustrated it can be a good fallback place for you and friends since its so large.....lost of people would be elated to have a spot so close to home to hunt,a ton of us only have public parks and woods that have been beat to death with many machines over the years, that being said people miss stuff all the time so to me looks like a great sure spot to try when all else fails....best of luck to you and always Happy Hunting!

Wow, please keep us posted- you have us drooling and foaming at the mouth! Any spot of grass is worth searching don't worry the finds will come- it must've been like a crowded airport on holidays-there should be military buttons too

That looks like a good place, work around just outside the doors and places people would take breaks. Dig all good signals and when you find a hot spot, dig everything. I would love a place like that.

Instead of 30 people searching, I would just do one small section at a time. It may take you a couple of months to cover the entire area, but you will have all the finds to yourself.

How did you go about getting permission? Or are you just raiding it? Just curious.

I have horrible anxiety at times and not sure about how to go about asking permission... or who to go to

If you don't have permission you are trespassing plain & simple... You MUST have permission or you are breaking the rules that keep this hobby going... I go to great lengths to get permission to my sites... I give the hobby a good name as well by respecting the landowners enough to get their consent... Do your part & get proper permission before searching a site. It's great to have full access & not care about anyone or anything because you have full clearance ..., I prefer not looking over my shoulder when I'm hunting...

I live in Bloomington Indiana. How far away do you live? Or PM me. I'm on FB too: "Zac Burke" there are coins all over my page so I'm hard to miss. Anyway if it's not hundreds of miles from me I might make a road trip before it gets too cold. 8-) BTW I'm pretty good at getting permission: I hunt private yards all the time.

I agree that bountyhuntergirl should not be at that location by herself.......too many things can happen these days....even for a man out by himself.
