Forum Question

DB, I'm pro gun, own several guns including the now legislated for extinction AR15, and I'm offended at some of the stuff i'm seeing on here. I have no problem on passing on the politcal threads , but when the message comes in the form of offensive avatars there is no way to avoid them. So, even though T-Net is a business and as such it's main product, this forum, is supposed to be welcoming to all, it's not because the mods are among those expressing their political beliefs here.

I suppose there is line someplace they may draw. My general impression is that line gets drawn much more quickly on subjects that don't line up with the mods own beliefs.

NF
I am not seeing that. People are passionate in their beliefs. An Avatar may be a reflection of that passion and as long as it is not vulgar or lewd or offensive we try to let people express themselves with their avatar. I guess mine is boring. Sometimes I admit it is hard to be neutral when you have your own opinions but we try hard to follow the rules set forth by the site. The mods are doing way more than you think. As stated before you can report any post for review Jeff of Pa,River Rat, Treasure Hunter and Larson all see the reports as well as admin. I f I post something out of line hit report. I have had to delete my own post before. I am human sir.

Just post some treasure pics and a story about treasure. Or ask a treasure question to the members. It is Treasurenet no matter what. Politics are not allowed on Tnet as a general rule. What kind of treasure do you seek?

I view the TNet from an iPod and have not yet been able to find a way to "block" a section or ignore a user.
When I view the "current" section on the iPod, I find myself having to scroll past all the gun debate stuff to find the treasure related items.
I am a gun owner by the way,
I don't bother to view the gun debate.
It is not the reason I joined this forum.
I am simply amazed at how far for the most part this thread has gone off topic which is the reason I had not responded earlier.
I would be thankful if someone could tell me how to "block" and "ignore" on the iPod.
If this can't be done at the present time I would certainly suggest the developer add these features.
Thanks in advance,

The best way to ignore the threads on the iPod really depends on what model you use. I believe it most likely that a simple thumb swipe will get you past the offending threads. Total cost = .0002 calories of energy.

Thanks ShadowLine,
Glad to see you gave that a lot of thought.

I just got a charter membership a few days ago.

It allows me to watch live as topics are replied to. I can almost instantly decide if I want to read the thread or not.

Well worth the $20

Your avatar is controversial and you already know that. Personally, I'm not offended by it, but i can see where some would be.

What I don't understand is why you would pick a controversial symbol as an avatar on a hobby forum? Are you against the United States or just proud of your Southern Heritage? Are you racist, a Neo Nazi or just a good ole boy proud to be born and raised in Virginia? Without knowing you there is no way to know. Your avatar sends many messages.

For me, I don't even use an avatar. I picked from the family friendly avatars available in the pull down menu. I don't use this place to support my political and religious beliefs. This place is for fun and relaxation. There are other places to fly the flag.
The whole country is offended by this and offended by that...a bunch of over sensitve crybabies...when you cant tell a grown man to pull his pants up because you might offend him, then something is wrong...Number9 doesnt have to explain what his flag is for, he flies it for him not for you.

What? The confederate flag is controversial?

Awwwwww does that mean I can't listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd anymore?

I love that band (what's left of them) but alas, they have the confederate flag on a few of their albums.

:sadsmiley:

Number9

Unless moderator has contacted you about your avatar don't worry about it.

Only a moderator or admin can ask you to change it and none has to my knowledge

took the words right out of my mouth. thanks well said.

Dootle if you want to avoid the 2nd amend posts just don't read any posts on that forum.

They are allowed here because site owners said to allow 2nd amend posts.

I never once stated that I read the 2nd amendment threads.
If anyone has come to that conclusion based on my posts I am sorry.

Is my avatar OK? Some people like like the Confederate Battle Flag which is part of my avatar?

Your avatar is fine.

I don't remember if I was ever personally offended by an avatar.

What I find Gross or of no interest to me, I don't look at :dontknow:

I'm not saying it can't happen,
but the last one I remember that I
had removed was years ago someone stole another members picture of themself
and edited it to insult them.. (childish stuff)

Let me try once again :laughing7: You see it's a losing battle for the most part, some people are so worried about the 2nd amendment, they forget all about the 1st.

Yeah, it's the first for a reason :laughing7: Hope this passes the litmus test :tongue3:

I believe the 1st was created to prevent our Government from shooting or jailing U.s.
citizens for speaking their opinion on our government.

However it was not created to prevent Businesses , Magazines, Newspapers, etc.
from speaking their opinions on how their Businesses , Magazines, Newspapers, etc.
are run. they have the 1st. right on their side to say yes here , or no not here also.

You wanna speak your opinion on everything, start a newspaper, or write a book

It's your first amendment right :laughing7:

Thanks, Treasure_Hunter and Jeff...

Sometimes you need to look at all sides before giving an opinion about things you see or hear...
even then you may miss something that will give you a different view. Many will say a coin has two sides... but they have three and overlook the edge, or rim.

I don't hold any hard feeling with anyone... Heck... I've even had President Lincoln and General Lee down here for a visit!
