I am wondering if there are any 'hot spots' near the Fort Pierce beaches. The sand looks like pumped sand. I am certain to the north near Wabasso/Disney it's all pumped. Tomorrow Sunday I might have a chance to spend some time hunting the best of the best..any suggestions?

I was over at Ft. Pierce this past week. The beaches are still very sanded in, with as much as two to three feet of sand above the normal shell line.

You can find daily reports about the metal detecting conditions on the treasure coast at http://treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com/

When the beaches are sanded in as they are right now and you just have to go, work the dune line out to about 6' and the surf line (stay out of the water with your detector). You are closest to the natural shell line at the surf line and along the dunes you're looking for things that have recently eroded out.

Hey BB:
There is a little known technique that a few TH'ers use. Can't guarantee that it will work but it'll get you down where you "might" find something. :icon_pirat: At low tide, on the wet sand, start digging a trench, a couple of feet wide and a couple of feet deep. Pile the sand up between the trench and the surf. As the tide returns later in the day, it'll slow it down some. If you time it right, you might have the trench for a few hours. Search the sand piles and inside the trench from all angles. If you have a GPS, make a notation of the beginning and end of the trench. That way you don't cover the same ground twice. Its slow and back breaking but you gain two feet of depth which is deeper than many metal detectors can go. It might improve your odds. You won't have to refill the hole in as the returning tide will do that for you. That is why, GPS is crucial along with a notebook for entries. :icon_thumleft: :coffee2:
