Food from the forest .

those are in the pastures around here but I don't indulge .

Do mushrooms have nutritional value? More than others?

Thanks
from the pages of Web MD
Mushrooms are a rich, low calorie source of fiber, protein, and antioxidants. They may also mitigate the risk of developing serious health conditions, such as Alzheimer's, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Thanks ticdig

I like the Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiatas!

:laughing7:

Im more interested in those with psychedelic value. Haven’t found any so far. They did teach us in health class not to mix morels and beer. Bad trip, man! They were wrong.

Grow your own..it will be the easiest thing you ever did

Mushrooms are interesting.
As much as we know about stuff ,we seem to lag on mushrooms.

Morels can cause reaction with someone that has consumed morels before without any trouble. For that reason it is recommended to start a new season of consumption with a small sample. (Of course if you store them you have access year round...)
Alcohol can make a reaction worse. So it is not advised to mix them , : (fistfull of morels , l.o.l..).

Placed in a safe spot out of reach of kids , pets, folks who shouldn't touch them , a sample of any mushroom is not a bad idea before consuming some.
Of course you need someone to know where the sample is if you have a reaction). Sometimes it takes a spore print to i.d..

Never try a mushroom without a positive i.d. as edible.. And that is still no assurance it's edible in your bodies system. Even if you've had them/the type before.

Given the choice of trying an unknown mushroom or starving , I'd starve longer.

Hello to all you foragers , Puff ball mushrooms are popping from the lawn here in central Va . battered and fried up a batch for breakfast . taste very mild and has great cancer fighting properties . look them up , they are super easy to identify . I'm also making a 1/2 gallon of choke cherry liqueur that will be ready in another week

Here in the Pacific Northwest we have Morels

White Matsutake is highly prized for its spicy cinnamon aroma and unique flavor
• Matsutake is most abundant in coastal woods and the southern Cascade Range, Literally my back yard. We get a lot of people hunting them to sell them.

Is this also called a PUFF BALL ?

I agree, the matsutake is a great tasting mushroom. I’ve collected many in our coastal mountains.

Another great local mushroom is the King Bollete below. I collect these in the sand dune spruce forests along the coast.

No, the puffball mushroom below is entirely different. We have these locally as well.

Morels are all that I feel confident in picking for my consumption. A few more weeks here, and they’ll be popping. A lady friend picks oyster mushrooms. They are delicious, but I can’t identify them well enough.
