Fishing for Silver- Fish On!s CRH Log

fiver.jpghalf a dream.jpg

In retrospect I should have gotten more pics along the way of the enders and opening the rolls. Oh well, I just couldn't keep myself from tearing through that box as fast as possible. This was by far my best day so far with coin roll hunting.

That is awesome fish on!, congrats on a getting a box many dream of getting, including myself!! I hope you're able to get more boxes from this batch!!!
Thanks for sharing,

Thanks. Sorry I didn't get better or more pics. I was seriously shaking the whole time.

No worries... I wouldn't have been able to slow down either! The pics you did take are sweet. Congrats!!

Thanks guys. I'm still shocked. To bring me back to reality, today I had two boxes with the same stamps on them and they were both skunks. Then I stopped at a bank asking for random halves and the manager told the teller, "you actually only have $2.00 in halves to sell because this one is silver and I'm buying it" I was in such shock that a manager would act like that that I just walked out. I totally should have given him a hard time, but I really didn't care about a lone 40% after the day I had yesterday.

I have four more boxes of halves to pick up this evening. I'm hoping I find some more silver.

Well, the last four boxes of the day got better. The first box had an ender. The ender roll had a '64 and a bicentennial silver in it.

Box 1: 1x90% (64) 3x40%
Box 2: 4x40%
Box 3: 3x40%
Box 4: 1x90% (bender)

Not as good as yesterday, but still an awesome day with a first (bicentennial) That box also had a clad bicentennial proof in good shape.

I just added up the finds from this weeks boxes. I found an astounding 19.3307 ounces in ten boxes this week. I'm amazed. And the best part is that the spot price has been on the move so this weeks finds are worth $448.47 at today's price. Not bad at all.

That is awesome!! It only takes a few good boxes, even one good box to make the bad boxes worth going through :)

I stopped at around 8 banks today picking up some dimes and quarters and looking for teller tray halves. One bank had a roll plus $4.50 in halves. They were all skunks. The next bank only had 2 halves, but one was a '68 and the other was a '64, so it was a great pickup. I searched a total of 3 dime boxes and 3 quarter boxes:

Dime box 1: skunk
Quarter box 1: 1x'64 (nasty gash in it, but I'll take it)
Dime box 2: 3xroosies
Quarter box 2: 1x'57 washington
Dime box 3: skunk (box was about 95% solid 2013's)
Quarter box 3: skunk

I had a pretty good day today. I was happy to get some more quarters. I should have skipped that last bank though since the quarters were a skunk and the dimes were new. That bank that had the silver halves is a great little bank. They are always super nice to me and I actually order boxes from them on occassion, but they are a little out of the way to make it a regular stop.

Thanks. I know what you mean. All those weeks with skunk box after skunk box are totally worth it. As long as I find some silver every week, I'm happy, but the truth is if you aren't continuously searching volume you aren't going to be there when a huge collection dump comes through.

I think sometimes pure dumb luck happens when a new crh'er gets a collection dump on their first box. The only thing people fail to realize when reading forums like this is that people seldom post their skunk boxes but if they get a good batch they post that making crh seem a lot better than it actually is.

I agree. That's why I try to post everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Overall, I think I've been pretty lucky. I'm about a week away from finishing my first 6 months of hunting. I do put a ton of time into hunting, though.

Thanks. Those two put me at 16 quarters in the 6 months since I started hunting. 2 were from reject finds and the other 14 were found in MWR boxes. My goal is to complete a full roll by next February. I may be able to do it, but I'll have to start hunting more quarters.

Congratulations on the silver quarters!!

Rough day at the office today. I searched a handful of boxes:

Dime box 1: 1x silver roosie 1x 80% Canadian
Quarter Box 1: skunk
Dime box 2: skunk
Quarter box 2: skunk
Dime box 3: solid 2013
Dime box 4: solid 2013

Awful results. And the coin counters weren't too friendly either. One of them counted $1k in coins as $148. They quickly rectified the situation but I was stressed for a minute. I also didn't find nearly as much foreign on the magnets as I usually do and most of my counts seemed a little off (not in my favor). Usually, I make out good on the counters, but today just must not have been my day.
I also had a TD bank that refused to sell me a box of dimes and quarters. Thant never happens to me. I think I need to teach this branch a lesson. I have 18 boxes of halves on order this week and I think I will bring half of them to that TD. I think 45 bag changes should be enough for them to realize that it would have been easier to sell me the lousy box of dimes and quarters. heehee.

ya teach them a lesson fish on!, I am doing the same today with a branch that did not want to sell me a dime box either :D 6 bags here they come!

I did 2 quarter boxes yesterday as well, both skunks.
Hopefully my dimes aren't solid 2013 today, if they are I think I'm going to pick up a lot of nickel boxes, I haven't done as many as I've wanted to this year.

Nickels are where it's at! Except I'm on a 4 box skunk streak.

Back to reality, but not too bad. I picked up four boxes of halves today:

Box 1: skunk
Box 2: 1x90% 1x40%
Box 3: 3x40%
Box 4: 2X40%

I have another 16 boxes coming in this week and if these averages keep up I'll be ecstatic.
