Hello,

I got part of a day to myself between commercial crab fishing, and hit a small beach park to no avail.

I eyeballed a old house w a decent sized side yard to metal detecting, and knocked on the door. It took a full minute for a nice older woman to answer, and give me a smiling permission.

I started off w an old 1913 wheat, a 1912 wheat, and then a 1950s wheat, all near the front. More scanning and digging revealed a merc. A v nickel also. More and more wheaties, junk, tax tokens, ect. I told her I’d only be 30 minutes, but I think it turned into 2 hours or so.

I avoided the front lawn, because it was nice, and I didn’t want to disturb a thing. But I couldn’t help myself, and I’m glad I did. Huge higtone had me thinking silver coin. Maybe my first franklin?? Maybe another Carson city silver dollar?? Nope!! Pocket watch baby!!

No doubt I knew it was solid and not plated, like my ten other pocket watches. I Scratched the back of the watch, but I ain’t worried about it. The bezel is missing, and I certainly wanted that piece too, but I can’t have everything.

A us military button, pcss co watch fob (not certain what company that is) and a Lone Ranger piece rounded out the hunt.

Wow! That's one nice Silver pocket watch. I'd love to dig a plug and see one of those. Congrats on that beauty.

Amazing find - Congratulations!:headbang::hello2::occasion14:

Yeah Baby ! Nice Find !! I'm still waiting for my first precious metal pocket watch . I've found several front covers - and a complete junk metal cheapie - now go get the gold one !

When I popped the back, and it was o so clean, I was hoping for a 14k hallmark, but remembered that she rang up high high, and I should expect silver

Well done. Good looking pocket watch. Congrats on the permission and the finds.

Did you ask the homeowner if it was hers or her family’s? Thats kinda a heirloom item

Congrats on some real nice finds! :icon_thumleft:

Awesome find
Congrats

Congratulations. Excellent day:icon_thumright:

Definitely cool and silver. Check the crown for gold. Some of them were. I would guess this turned into a childs toy because bezel is gone and the hands or evidence of hands (Rust streaks on dial) should have survived. so probably lost the hands before itself was lost IMO

Way to go Woody! That's a bucket lister that's not even on my list because I don't expect to ever find one. Very cool!

Excellent find, congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Now that's one cool find! Nice going. What you think the baggage type tag is from?

Beautiful silver pocket watch!... and other finds! :occasion14:
Can you open the back dust cover further to access the mechanism? I was able to do so on a silver pocket watch that I found. Be careful to oil the hinge and work it gently if there is one. It revealed for me the watch serial number and maker. From the company records, which are available on-line, I found out that that exact watch was made between 11/1/1863 and 12/31/1863.
