Hello to all my first post and hopefully some closure.Long story on this one I will explain if this can be identified. It is marked on brass from Wilmington Delaware estate I would imagine this marking appears on many detecting finds as well.Colonial origin 18th century or older. The other image is forged on the end of a 18th century fishing hook appears like old map art of British Isles or French fur trade no idea.I need help big time on these for provenance of my items. 11hb.jpg

I have read the thread. I still don't understand exactly what the OP is saying or asking. Bobsfinds last post confused me more than ever. I guess I don't speak Bobsfinds. Can someone translate?
I can translate if you like. He said "blah blah blah. you guys are crying like babies, blah blah, toddlers here, blah blah, Johnny raincloud, blah blah, I don't need your opinions because I'm smarter than you (but use the incorrect spelling of the word course)" Short version... Rude, arrogant, insulting, and took a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong forum... Maybe he will go away now ?

research free school

All this over a mark on a fishing hook.
Imagine the doors that were opened and then out on a dig with the best archeologists in the world and you sift through mud sand dirt 100s of tons of it and something this small is all you have to show for it over years of work.Laugh all you want but this is a good example how it starts and then people ask for help and then funding and you have an excavation site from something as small as a fishing hook and not in this case but others have started in similar fashion. You all have your reasons to go out hunting with metal detectors reasons such as the dream of getting rich to losing weight and quitting smoking. My self it is a life long interest.Influenced by my great uncle.A WW1 Liberty Division vet who went over the top with weapon and later with film equipment.A long time photographer and microfilm documentation expert. He loved a good mystery that antiques may bring.

If you happen to find your self in a situation of metal artifact markings that other detector experts may convince you to toss away I will gladly take a look at it on my free time if you need a second opinion.
(What is it?) (Is it man made or is it some pseudomorph common object?)

I added links I that will be helpful if your not familiar with the way objects can trick the mind especially old iron steel. Before I went further into this I checked for the obvious a very common mistake people can make examining old iron steel.Anything can morph over time.

The first link is a good read and it is free.

The next links are typical types of scenarios you may see in field finds covered in mud and rust .I went through all the false imaging possibilities prior to starting this project.I hope you can gain some knowledge from these links I know I learn something new almost daily and all my free time is devoted to research and fishing the grass flats locally.
