Hi all. I finally was able to get out and dig a little bit in a cornfield. Was able to get another toasted old LC to add to my collection. I have found a few here now and musket balls as well, but STILL haven't gotten any flat buttons. I dug my first round ball with the sprue visible. It's so flattened that I didn't measure it but it weighs 111 grains. I am hoping to get out more while I am off. We're supposed to get another bit of snow/sleet over night. Winter's last hurrah!
I apologise for the poor video quality and the pics as well.

Awesome finds, congrats on the lc, nice to see someone else local snagging up the LCs

Actually, I thought the video was rather nice. Maybe it's just me but I am tired of all the loud music, special effects, commercialized sound effects on a simply "home movie". I get enough of all the cr*p on EVERY other media. A nice, quiet, simple and yet very nice scene and discussion was rather a pleasant surprise.

I can suggest one thing for future vids though. If you take just a small piece of sponge and place it over the microphone, it'll cut out most of the wind interference. Kind of like the sponge cover they put on news microphones. Don't need much.

Nice to see you got out and found some goodies!

Thanks Cjon and Whad. I was hoping for another big copper before planting season and I always like the musket balls. I had my 52nd Bday on Monday ( St Patty's Day ), so this was a little green present to myself, lol.

Congrats on the find and the birthday. I love the optimism in the title of your thread..."first LC of 2014". I will be thrilled if I can turn up a single LC this entire year! If I find two I will be dancing in the streets...

Looks like you broke the ice on large cents for 2014. In fact, you may have had to break the ice just to get it out of the ground, considering the weather we've had this winter!

Nice coin....1 of them is on my list. Might have to get you to mail me one :laughing7:

Like the video ...plain and simple is nice ....as WHADIFIND said.

Thanks everyone for your replies and views. After a bit more cleaning, all I can determine is that it is definitely a large cent, lol. It looks like a Matron Head but no hint of a date.

I'm with Terpfan. Those LC's run when they see me coming. I've only dug 3 in 10 years! I bet I have you beat on ChuckE Cheese tokens though. :tongue3:
I'm sure that LC wasn't dropped by the Amish, as they only use wheat pennies. :laughing7:
Happy 52nd Birthday! :occasion14::occasion18: You're just a baby. I have you beat by two years. Quindy on the other hand............
Congrats and keep those videos coming.

I found my first Chuck E Cheese token in my own yard. I read on here somewhere that they actually have some value as the rat character has gone through some changes over the years and has a collector following, lol. Who knew?

I guess I had an insanely lucky year last year, I dug 12 lcs, a 2 center, a shield nickel, and a half cent, most of them came from my cornfield I stumbled upon without any research

You know why you were lucky? Because you beat everyone else to your spot. A guy at work stopped me the other day and asked me how the hobby was going. He said he saw 3 guys swinging detectors in an old pumpkin field near Benton last week and stopped to talk to one he knew. While there the guy dug a silver and told him this time of the year was his preferred md'ing season because of all the moisture in the ground. I won't pull that many coins from my field, but it won't be because I didn't try, lol. Hope you get that many more and a big silver as icing on the cake.:coffee2:

Ive been trying like crazy, gridding that field left right up down sideways backwards, and even doing headstands lol, judging by the dates of my coins ive found there, if I do get lucky n find silver, it should b seated silver, or even capped bust silver, thatd truly send me into cardiac arrest lol

Great find your LC and button! Nice video too! Happy Birthday to ya too!
I would like to find another LC, with a readable date.
It's great to get out after this winter!
