WOW! You should go buy a lottery ticket now! I would keel over if I dug that up. I've been hoping to find a CW buckle in one of my plugs for several years now and still notta. It's going to be hard to top that find for a while but I hope you don't have to wait too long. I'd definitely hit that site often and hard! HH and thanks for the pictures. Definitely eye-candy. Banner vote here too.

I'd really like to see what it looks like cleaned up, too.

I would to. But I don't know how. Would it hurt the value?

I sure would get some real solid professional advice before you do anything, yes, cleaning it wrong will ruin it.That is a High end piece that is your duty to preserve it right

Don't clean it and you have done great!!! I would still be dead if I found that. BANNERRRRRRR!!!!!d2

I found it at an old house place. Don't know exactly what year but I did find some WW1 Artifacts there. About 30 feet from where I found the buckle I dug a WW1 button. There is nothing left of the house except a dug out root cellar and a well. I've dug about a thousand old mason jar lids with the Porcelain liner, a thimble and some old clock parts. I also found the back if a pocket watch.

It will not at all hurt the value if you are trying to sell it or something in that nature you need to clean her up because a collector you sell it too will want it cleaned so the C.S.A. is showing in full! I know the proper way of doing it but would rather not say on public forum on going about cleaning it. Take it to a local civil war shop or someone that you know that can give you the tip on cleaning her up, the buckle isn't has hard too clean like a button and will clean up super super great. Once you clean her up you will see the true beauty in that buckle and be able to look @ that C.S.A. better.
