Well, I finally found a clovis! The material is red jasper, but there is a small nick near the point.

Post #102: good point Larson! Obviously, this is a creature of good fortune. It would be a shame if this poor fella was denied his well deserved gratitude and ended up on the end of one of those spring loaded spike things. Lol!

Well, I'll tell you my friends, I don't think it would be to my advantage if I brought home one of those little suckers. I think it best to leave them there where they are at so they can bring to the surface more of those beautiful complete points.

Here is the other point that was found on one of those mole hills.

well Dennis, i see what you mean......i guess i wasn't thinking........i think i would like to get a mole for our site now

Plenty of groundhogs or whistle pigs as some call them around us here that dig for worms. I have found small arrowheads where they have dug. I have a spot I always check to see if any are showing.

If only you could find those moles that eat that bind weed roots, and if you find them let me know, I'll take a few.

truly stunning find congrats on banner.i do a lot of metal detecting and bottle digging some arrow head hunting but with the first 2 i (even when i find older pieces)never give much thought about the original owner but with any indian or paleo artifacts i do.i try to invision the man as he was hunting in the early morning light in a land totaly different then now more wild than any of us could imagine a man with a sinewy muscled body stalking prey with such primative weapons that with a bad aim or shot could mean the hunted could become the hunted .the bravery of theese men must of been something to behold .such a proud people only taking what they needed and respecting the land they worked

I don't know if anybody has asked already but what's the length on it?

Sorry, I didn't intentionally miss your question! It measures right at two inches.

Yes, it was quite different back then. It was beneficial to be on top of your game to be successful in the hunt. But there is some conjecture that primitive man hunted the mammoth and Mastodon to extinction. I read somewhere that they went extinct around 9600 bce, but not sure how they could come to that conclusion.

I hope this keeps going I sure do enjoy reading everyones responses.

Wow!! Nice. I've never found a clovis myself but had taken my visiting brother out for his first ever hunt and within a hour he shows me a beautiful full clovis that he found. He wasn't impressed until I showed him in one of my books the age and rarity of them.

I have experienced this before also. Twice I have taken somebody out and they find a really nice complete point (not a Clovis ), but still a exceptional point. But of course it is a good way of getting a relative or good friend hooked into hunting for artifacts.

me too....took a virgin out and she pops up with this one....a nice 4,000 year old Gatecliff, worn smooth by the surf.
