Since I've been detecting I always do. Just can't resist those surface finds!

Heh, i dont know why ppl are embarrassed by picking up change on the ground. I think it rather foolish not to - afterall...its Money! What purpose does it serve on the ground?

I gotta admit I sure do, but if someone I care about like a sexy babe is looking my way, I won't.
Hell, I'll even pick up returnable bottles and throw them in my truck if no ones looking.

I have to admit, before I began metal detecting, I wouldn't think twice about picking up a penny on the sidewalk, but after multiple times spending 10 minutes digging out a plug and finding just a penny, I'm saving alot of time just picking it up off the ground. ;D Savvy?

Maby it comes with Age,
But I wouldn't care if Carmen Electra herself was
Talking to me at the Time.

If I see a Penny on the ground.
It will end up in my Pocket ;)

Guaranteed, I'd beat her to it. :D

then again, maby I should ask her to pick it up for me :P

Yes i do pick up money off the ground or in restraunts. Just the other day i picked up 3 pennies just sitting there. NO ONE was interested in them so when no one was looking i took them. It wasnt anyones change either just 3 longsome pennies. I think they were waiting for me to pick them up. Also i found a penny on the floor of mcdonalds and picked it up. :)

On Father's Day, I was stuck in traffic on the NY State Thruway due to an accident that had a fatality unfortunately. Since the highway was stopped because of this (for 1 and 1/2 hours) most people got out of the cars to walk around and get as close as possible to see what happened. Anyway I got outta my car and went towards the guard rail divider and naturally was scoping out the dirt. I didn't think anything would just pop out at me but sure enough there was an 1974 quarter just laying there waiting for me to pick it up. Now there is no way anyone would have found it since no one would just walk down the center of the highway so the detecting gods were with me that day. Too bad for the person who died though. Not a good fathers day for him and his family unfortunately.

As a side note I also found a dollar bill sitting under a bench at my kids school.

Of course I do! For some reason I can sense round objects on top of the ground before I realize I see them. I just automatically look down and there is a dime or quarter or mark (when I was in Germany) and there it is. I must see in my peripheral vision or something.

Someone is sure showing their age with the "Paul is dead foundation". Maybe we can play "Strawberry Fields."

i started saving the change i found on the ground just to see how much i would fine.... i have half of a ten gallon water jug filled with change and some bills. once i found a 20 dollar bill. nice!!! :o

At convenience stores, if they have candy boxes stored/displayed directly under the counter where everyone takes their money out to pay, it's a treasure trove. The party store owner by our house used to let my kid go through them and she would find tons of change, well over a dollar or two sometimes. One day she found a ten and two ones, $12.

Kids could probably get away with rooting through the candy but an adult???

One day while stopped for a red light I was peering out the window into the median and I spotted a couple of coins. I told my daughter what I saw and she rolled her eyes and said, "MOM! If you get out of this car to pick those up I'm going to lock you out!" :D .....Had to leave them there. :-\ :D

When I 'm not "prepared" to pick up something I don't do it.

When I'm out with my detector, I do some simple stretching before starting the hunt. This way I'm much less likely to pull a muscle or slip a disk... you know, stuff that happens when you don't want it too.

When I see a coin or something on the ground I have learned not to "reflex" pick it up without first asking myself if it's worth it. Last thing I need to do is get excited about a nickel on the ground and then end up in bed for two days. I'm not old and feeble and I work outside for a living, heavy lifting, driving, electrical and mechanical work. After a few years of relying on my body for a living, I'm a bit more cautious about how I use it when I'm not working.
Bottom line, if I'm prepared to pick it up, I do it... if I'm not prepared, it's not worth the risk.

Just remember you find a penny with heads up, good luck! Find a penny, heads down bad luck.

well the way i see it.... if you find money it is good luck whether it be heads up or tails up............you wouldn't leave $20 laying there if it was face down would you? lol

Pick it up. In our monthly detecting club meetings we have contests. Prizes go to BEST COIN, BEST JEWLERY, BEST OTHER. Our rules are that if you find it while you are detecting, it can be entered. One member entered a $5.oo bill. He found it while detecting, but, not while digging. I found a full can of Miller's High Light. Neither won, but, if it's a good find, grab it...No, I didn't drink the beer....

Thanks for posting everyone, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I nabbed .14 cents tonight on the way home from work in the convenience store parking lot. Oh well, .14 cents closer to early retirement, lol!

I am a teacher at a high school and I always pick up change. I make it a point to tell my students how it adds up. This year I picked up over 1000 coins and came away with nearly 66 bucks. Not to shabby.
