Hello Detector Friends !!

I?m not quite sure where to post this topic, so I try it here :)

I live in Denmark, and my family and I are going to California this summer.
I have thought of buying a metal detector in the US and take it with me home to Denmark.

Does this create any kind of trouble ??
Can I export a detector from US to Europe, without too much paper work and bureaucracy ??

Pleace tell me what you know !!!
I thank you already now :) :) :)

I think, I got the message !! ;D
This all sounds a bit uncertain, I?ll better not buy that detector then :-\ :-\ :-\

Say, are americans not interested in tourists buying things in your country.........???

I believe you are getting the wrong impression...
let me explain how this works a little better.

First off, you can buy anything you want in the US and take it with you when you
leave....
But... and here's the "BUT"
All countries or many of them, have "Import duties" on merchandise purchased in
a different country...
Generally if your traveling you can purchase a certain amount of things to return to your country with, ..... without paying taxes on it.
For example, if cigarettes are cheaper across the border... you can buy 2 cartons
for your own use... but anything over that, you have to pay a fine, or taxes.
Most countries have a tax on just about everything, and if you purchase an item
in the US and not in your home country then your Government loses its tax on
that item.
So they give you a limit on the amount you can purchase while you are traveling
abroad, many savvy business people will load up on cheap items in another country
that sell for a lot and is heavily taxed in the home country so they can return and
sell the items for big money....
Metal Detectors are expensive, does it go over the limited value of the items you can
bring into your country....
Is it on a "Do not bring into the country" list, or its taxed when it is brought in...

Another side to consider of course, is what are the laws in your country
governing the us of a metal detector, places such as Greece, I believe they are
outlawed because of the archeological nature of the country....
If the laws in your country say you can not use them, then Customs may
be required to confiscate machines coming into the country, do you know your laws ?

These are the real questions to be answered....
We Americans want you all to buy everything you want...
Just my 2 cents...

Hello TORRERO :)

Thank you for your very detailed explainations !!

I?m actually quite aware of the things you point out.
My original question was concerning difficulties bringing a detector on an airplane in the US !!!

...and my comment on americans interest / or not in selling things was, because some members told me that the US might put duties on me, yes even confiscate the detector !!!

Thank you
agersoe

Ive read on the forums of people brining detector with them as cary-ons, don't think it would be a problem, call the airlines
