It is a Pitkin flask early 1800s by the look of the neck. as to value if it is not a repo.
100.00 on up. does it have a pontil scar on the bottom? that will help date it. Flasks made between
1850/1870 generally don't have one because the use of the snapcase mold. BK

it looks early, where did you find it? Flask's were made by pitken glasshouse, since 1815 or so. are there any letters in the oval area? There were many other co.'s doing the same type of work.
yours appears to have the pontil scar. also the sheared and tooled lip. The mold that made it was well worn by the look of the mold seams. what size is it? nice find!

Weston -

Welcome to Tnet!

I too have looked at "tons" of various Eagle Flasks. And the more I look the more I suspect your's could be quite rare - color - pontil - sheared lip - heavy seam ... all point in the scarce to rare direction! Hang on to it ... and if it turns out to be worth $1000.00 or more, you may want to give up coins and concentrate on bottles! LOL :laughing7:

Yes ... "Possibly" with a capital "P"

Althought I primarily collect soda bottles, I have access to dozens of various web sites, all showing a variety of eagle flask, but so far none listing the one you found.

Even a so called "common" bottle in an unusual color is considered rare.

But don't buy that farm yet ... the jury is still out on this one!

Good luck!

Oops!

Something tells me I may have created a "monster" here!

But that's okay, monsters are good ... especially in the form of enthusiastic collectors!

Hang in there ... something will turn up!

Since it appears that you have so much money to spend, you might want to check into buying this book. It is considered by some to be the "Bible" of flask books. The quote below may be a little misleading about collector's not wanting to part with it, as I found several available copies on Amazon.com starting at $14.98

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/051753147X/?tag=treasurenet01-20

Quote:

American Bottles and Flasks and Their Ancestry by Helen McKearin and Kenneth M. Wilson, 1st edition, published 1978 by Crown Publishers, New York. The acknowledged bible for flask collectors. This book is out of print and can only be bought used from a collector willing to part with it - usually sells for $100-250.

Weston,
My two cents, that sucker is old. Based on the age I would say it's probably worth quite a bit. It's pontiled, crude and it has an eagle on it. It kind of sucks that you have an blank oval slug and not a plate mold (which would probably have made it worth exponentially more). I don't know about the color. It depends on the type of flask. If it were cobalt, it might be worth a ton. You never know, that color for an eagle flask might be rare or highly desirable. Take that thing to a bottle show and find out....or if you wanted a real gage, put it on ebay with a ridiculous reserve. You could try these guys too. They might be able to tell you the rarity of the color or lip.

...and I never remember seeing a bottle on the banner. I think this one deserves it. That is a sweet bottle.
