Well f it's any consolation you WERE the 700th reply.

Actually, you snuck in about 12 seconds before me to claim that honor. Keep your eyes open for a mini van and balloons, they should be pulling up any second

Speaking for myself here.... I always wanted to be the 708th poster!!!!! Now I'll hold my breath for the mini-van and balloons (HURRY). BVI... I realize you can't post pics everyday but everyday I look. My cave project here in TN I believe just ran out of stream concerning finding hidden loot (90%). I wanted to catch up to ya... but your the winner. I always wondered who's project is harder to work with and since I'm the only voter.... I'll take that cake home (so says I). I'm down to artifact sifting now at entrance (MUCH EASIER). Hope to see some pics soon and best of luck on your project.... Brad

A few have asked about the balls / shot etc and how they cleaned up - this is the collection so far from about 6hrs detecting over 3 visits.

You've got some nice balls there !! No pun intended, looks like muskets through cannon rounds. Nice find !!

The more I see, the more impressed I am with your spot and it's potential. Stay safe.

Thanks!!

With regards to the cannon / shot, it gets to the point if I am snorkelling or diving, I collect so much its too heavy to swim with.
I am reluctant to leave anything though as the crustation around these things is so thick, it could be anything inside - see post #1

I'm with you BVI... I'd have a had time coming up if that's what it took. And then I'd go back if possible.... Dive, dive, d I v eeeeeeeeeeee. I'd leave nothing myself... take your time and MISS NOTHING! Brad

thanks brad

yes, trying to work a grid pattern to follow the debris and the coins, but cant actually mark a physical grid that will be visible to others.

when I'm heading back to shore, I look at the size of the ocean, and think "must I really cover every sq inch of that with a machine with a coil the size of a dinner plate?"

daunting to say the least!!!

BVI, have you been recording your finds on a map or google-earth aerial printout? doing that could really help you focus you search. Use colored stick-pins for different types of items such as pipes, balls, coins, etc. and see what patterns develop.

I'm only working shallow water for now but the next time I go out I'm going to make some simple markers using lead, fishing line, and small balloons as a reference point

yes, after it became apparent there was a debris "field" I bought a waterproof GPS to log all the finds and I plot them on Google Earth.

And the answer to that BVI is HELL YES.... and when you think you got it all... start over. You know exactly what I mean. My buddy Jordon wants to take Franks Surfmaster back deep into the cave tomorrow to check out the other mounds before we take it to him on Wed. I can't hardly bring myself to do this and then travel to East TN. early the next morning to help Frank (he's right though). Yea you "must" cover it with a "dinner plate" or you must request some help.... just keep diving partner and I'll keep crawling!!!!! In fact if you had something larger than a "dinner plate" YOU'D NEVER COME UP... stick with the "plate". Good luck.... Brad
