I've always been fond of having the sewer pipes along the front drive after they are cleaned and coated.

Got to lift the bloody things first....!! :laughing7:

Yeah, unfortunately that will probably require using an outside source with lifting and boating capabilities and that means giving up your site because that word will spread like fire.

Ah!! luckily I know a few good teams from my previous life who specialise in night-time covert ops....
but there is no way the pipes are going on my drive....:laughing7:

to be honest, the pipes can stay where they are for now (they're not going anywhere) its other booty I'm looking for both in the water and on land!

Thought this was cool;

the amount of build-up over the "shot" is over 1/2 inch thick - how many years did THAT take!

So how long does it take to grow one inch of Coral/rock?

Ok gonna answer my own post. Mental note: look up first then post.
So there are to many parameters to list from temp of water to turbulence

"There's a great deal of variability in the growth rates of different corals, so it would matter which kinds were on the reef. The fastest growth rate of any known coral is 264 mm/year (that would be about 10 inches per year). Many only grow a few millimeters/year (less than 1/8 inch).

I wish I knew the answer to that question and some of the guys over on the Shipwrecks forum, may be able to answer that! From the different sizes of cannon shot (not the lead balls which are apparently Pistol and possibly Rifle shot) that I could see in the pics, my question is, what kind of ship would have been that heavily armed with such an assortment of different sizes of cannons. Is it possible that the ship was not a Pirate ship and was actually a heavily armed and heavily treasure laden ship, I truly believe so and hope so! For this reason, it is so much more important to bring up one or more of the sewer pipes, in hopes that the identity of the ship can be established and if there was/is a manifest, you will know what truly lays on the bottom and how big of a Super Yacht you will be able to afford!;D

thanks frank- how will looking at the pipes identify the ship?

thanks for your support!!

You may find the old british military arrow on them which will indicate it was a Man of war or at least the sewer pipes were on one once. This may help with the research, also their composition, if there are a bunch of them, try to check if they are all made from the same material. If one or two are not iron you may be looking at a flag ship in one direction and of course a pirate ship in the other as they shipped whatever hardware they could get.

thanks!!

so need to get them up and de-crusted..... mmmmmm

Once conserved, they should have indentifying marks on them (i.e. Maker's name or marks, Dates and possibly even the ship's name itself)! If these don't lead to the name of the ship, it should lead to the country of origin and then if there are any historical records for the ship, one may be able to match the sewer pipes to the armament for a specific ship.

Sorry Kevin! I did not see your post before I started typing my response. However, both responses give some similar but also, different ways to identify the ship or it's country of origin.

2ft huh?
you never know
Bet no ones laughing at MDing that beach.
Great find keep us informed
Happy for you!!

Aye aye Captain!

From the variety sizes of possible Cannon shot, you could be possibly dealing with 4 different sizes of sewer pipes. However, if some have more encrustation on them than others, this tally could be distorted and there may actually only be 2 or 3 different sizes. Considering that this recent find is only a small drop in the bucket per see, who knows how many you will actually find and how many sizes??!!
