deus update sept 18th

Calabash Digger- I hope you understand I wasn't questioning your info, I only wanted to pass on what I picked up through our official XP distributor. I'm sorry if in any way it sounded to you or anyone else like it was a negative reply. We are as excited to see these show up as anyone- so the sooner it arrives the better. :)

Sorry about that, been catching a little heat about the post in another forum so im just a little touchy about it sorry. I got the info from a reliable source so I put it out there, some dont believe it and thats ok im not into spreading gossip its reliable information. Let us know when you get a price on the coils. thanks

Calabash, I don't think anyone's skepticism about the release is directed deliberately at you, so definitely don't take it personally. XP has talked about the release date in the "other forum" a few times now, over the course of more than a year, and its been pushed back every time. So I think everyone is just fed up with this and will believe it when they see it. Most recently, it was supposed to be released last fall, then they changed it to the winter, then it was first quarter of this year then... they went quiet... I certainly hope it releases at the rally... I've been excited about it for nearly a year now.

I've been a developer in the software industry for 13+ years and I've seen releases flop and dealt with fall out from them. XP seems to have done a very poor job marketing and managing information for this release. They released information about the software\hardware WAY too soon, when the product was not ready yet. They shouldn't be telling us anything until its through their quality assurance dept and ready to ship. Then they can tell us about it, create a buzz, and reap the rewards with increased sales while its hot. As you can see many peoples attitude about the v4 release is "yeah right! I'll believe it when I see it"... which is what XP created by releasing information way too soon.

So lets hope this is the last "release date" and it actually comes out... and lets hope XP learned from this marketing mistake and doesn't tell us about the next version until its chiseled in stone and ready to roll.

I don't think a company this large would release information/news prematurely. My theory is that they delayed the release for a reason. Perhaps they suddenly discovered that minelab or another oem is announcing a competing detector in late 2016/early 2017. (Can you imagine minelab announcing a new etrac or fbs detector thats wireless/portable like the deus? Xp would be no more.) They have to time the release to capture as much market share as possible. Although, i think that people will be disappointed if even v4 does not improve ID of deeper targets.

I don't think it's possible to improve the ID of deeper targets through software on a VLF machine? The reason XP cuts the TDI out on deeper targets is because TDI at that depth is unreliable and they don't want users passing up a potential find when the TDI is questionable. They want you to go off the tone.

Don't want to sound like an XP fanboi, but I consider anything gained with the V4 software to be gravy so it would be hard to be disappointed. I am having great success from surf to turf with the Deus as is. Regarding deep target ID, the Deus is primarily a sound machine so as long as the right whisper tone for a keeper target breaks through the trash tones I'll dig despite a double dash VDI. So positive vdi on deep keeper targets is not a must have for me. A more stable wet sand salt beach mode would be great otherwise I am looking forward to the user interface improvements and integration of the new wireless pinpointer and higher frequency elliptical coil.

And I'm looking for increased capability to pick up on the super small gold in the rivers here in NH. I was gonna pick up a Gold Bug 2, but figured I'd wait and see how the new Deus coil and frequencies are.

Plus, with it being smaller in size, I'm sure the new elliptical coil will blow my current 11" coil away in heavy trash sites.

Somehow I don't think we'll be disappointed.

And the fact that you can operate that new smaller coil at 10khz which I imagine wound be good for relics and coins.

Sure it will make the sound but even the tone on deeper targets is unreliable. Its just not good enough to say thats ferrous and thats nonferrous in clean ground. Small rusty iron at 6"+ sound just like a deep non-ferrous object. You just have to dig. They even look good on the xy screen if its a nail. Nomad mode also too unstable to be reliable. Its just not a deep coin machine. For everything else, great.

I'm tempted to disagree with you there, Kilo... by adjusting the settings, you can indeed discern a silver dime from iron at 10" easily.

It's well documented in the posts on the "other forum". Information directly from XP's CEO stating release dates of v4 and the coil going back to last summer (and perhaps earlier, I just never read the "other forum" before last summer). The reason for the delay is they have had technical issues that have been pushing back the release date and refuse to release it until its 100% perfect. They absolutely released way too much information, way too early. There is even one post from March 2015 where XP directly emailed a member saying the update was releasing last summer and the coil in the fall. (thats one of many examples) The last version 3.2 was released in Sept of 2013... that's 3 years ago. They are not holding back for a special time, they have been trying their best to get it out for years now. XP isn't a large company and company size doesn't have anything to do with releasing a quality product. Mega companies such as Microsoft have botched full OS's before... and many small companies produce some of the best products out there.

XP is producing leading edge detecting technology and when working on the technology forefront, Murphy's Law will be waiting around every bend. I have no issue at all with a delay or it taking years to get the next version out. I fully appreciate the amount of work something like this update requires. My previous post was just to clear up why people are skeptical about this latest release date. Hopefully XP learned from their mistake telling people things way too early creating frustration and rumors... if no one knew it was coming and they released all this information a month before it was on the shelf... people wouldn't be frustrated with misinformation and the buzz would be huge and exciting.

Not my personal experience re the tonal response you describe when relic hunting deep targets in trashy conditions, but to be fair, I also don't use the x-y screen (and am trying to make a conscious effort to utilize it more in my hunting toolkit) so cannot comment on that aspect. That being said, that does not mean I would not welcome any improvement in performance in this area by the upcoming software release (obviously). I am just not "expecting" it and therefore I won't be "disappointed" should it not come to pass, provided the other functional changes I am expecting do come to pass. If XP does directly address your issue (and incorporates the other changes I am expecting) then we all win and I will be happy if that is the case.

Wholeheartedly agree with this perspective. XP inadvertently prematurely set expectations amongst the dedicated user base and ironically took a hit in credibility as a result of ultimately doing the right thing, which is not releasing flawed SW and/or HW. Hopefully the company learned a valuable marketing lesson for the future. Fortunately, their existing V 3.2 product is so good (or at least not fatally flawed unlike White's recent issues with the MX sport) that the loyal Deus customer base can afford to snd is willing to wait for the enhanced product and will quickly forgive and forget if XP finally delivers even if several months late.

It makes perfect sense for XP to release not only a software update but also the accompanying new coil and PP at the Rally. Expectations are indeed high - but as some have mentioned already v3.2 is still rockin' and rollin. It is a puzzle to me - with every hunt trying different combinations that sometimes unlock another layer of goodies.

Think of this: Since late 2013 when XP released v3 and Full Tones - what other top-end machine has been released by any company that is even in the same ballpark as far as adjustability, portability, performance (which keeps surprising a lot of people), etc??? I think XP took its ball and went home one day and decided to design its own game LOL

...and when they came back with their game - everyone (the competition, worldwide) had to rethink their approach to metal detecting. The next several years will be interesting to say the least as far as new machines go - other manufacturer's answers to the mighty Deus. Honestly I'm more interested in the new software over the coil, however should I decide to go nugget hunting there is a coil for that too. How can you lose?

"What do you think the temperature is?"

"One"

So the moral of the story is - don't stake your reputation on an XP release date.

:laughing7:

It will happen that info came from a very reliable source.

Laidback4sho, how do you adjust your setting to tell the difference between dimes and iron at 10" depth, if you wouldn't mind disclosing that...

i also am interested in purchasing the coil and possibly the pinpointer as well.

Has XP ever put out a flyer like this in concert with a huge event in relation to a release?
9f2f4efc249c1867d9162525a5fa17a5.jpg

If not then I highly doubt that this will be another let down. This event and information in the flyer tells me that whatever issue associated with the new coil (production, standards, quantity, etc.) have been worked out.

That's why I have high confidence XP is going to deliver.

If they do not release it on the 18th after that info was given to me Im gonna be very upset because I told the person who gave me the info I was gonna leak it.I DIDNT REALIZE there was so much scandal or whatever you want to call it around the announcement of the update last year..

I'm pulling for XP to come through this time.

But please understand that unless it's an official XP announcement, or you yourself are a representative of XP, then it's just gossip. That flyer could have been cleverly photoshopped by anyone wanting to troll for fun, as far as I would know.

Until then color me a skeptic.
