I responded to the pictures o.p. back when about traps (metal foothold types).
Having trapped it wasn't too out of line.

BUT... the whole " hunt" pivoted for me upon the caption stating Indian.
Firstly I have no problem leaving the long dead right where they are.
At the same time I have no interest in bothering them.
But most importantly is discovery means operation must cease until a survey is conducted.
For the bones and archeology's sake and multiple acts from antiquities to aboriginal , varying by state.
One case had a site preparation in a town I know by heavy equipment come to a screeching halt when pottery tumbled about.
Old timers knew who's pottery it was and they were native.
Construction resumed after survey. Which too doesn't bother me. Either the survey or return to construction.

In the Dents Run case....What should the result of suspecting native bones be? And by whom?
Opinions of likelihood of thier being bone let alone native varied as much as most aspects of the case.
But to the presenter of the photos....They when and why of the release and interpretation of them should matter

We currently have the benefit of hindsight.
Did the suggestion of native remains affect state and federal legal interests?
Trigger attention to excavation type permitting requirements AFTER exploration and no precious metal recovery(s)?
Or just bring more attention to the site? Or it's disturbers thereof?

The finder had a theory of a lost gold shipment. From there it morphed into something else - KGC/Indian related treasure trove - if I remember correctly.

It seemed a bit much, but I am not here to judge anyone or poo poo anyone’s research (like some others).

People live and hunt and recreate there.
The goins on affected multiples that way. For what?
Had it been a spot I was hunting or trapping or living on/near would it have been wrong if it bothered me and I claimed it affected my potential gain?

How was it installed? What was the site pre culvert?
Is a prior disturbed and later disturbed again site the site to disturb again looking for signals? For what?
Guy digging a trench for a culvert and his crew going to ignore tons of gold encountered?
Let's think about that a moment while watching wires hooked up to re-rod in/at the culvert.

Water runs out from under the rock during spring run off? (Pictures were stated as being from underwater If I recall right.)
A tiny trickle near me has had samples panned. Should I assume Dents Run was never sampled for gold before this case?
Considering how many low areas with a hint of water have been sniffed... A potential couple flakes were checked for long ago.
Not talking about tons of gold. Only the tangible scent of it.
No , no one I know has stated they sampled a couple pans from Dents Run. That is not how prospecting goes. ( Unless you are selling videos or something.)

Someone on the run (why military are running with a heavy load of gold or how the several soldier were killed is about enough of a tall tale already ) stops and digs how deep to hide gold? Deeper than the culvert?
Maybe they had some rock shovels or a steam engine I'm not aware of in any version.

I'd detail my being hunched over carrying heavy weights or equipment in a confined space but it isn't Dent's runs "cave". Which by the way is a generous description. It is an activity I'd avoid if being pursued though. Let alone under the potential of being fired upon or smoked out.
Following the killing of so many of my force , you'd be hard pressed to find me in such a confined space with only one way out. Let alone digging.
Even if I was responsible for it all!

Gold panning can detect faint evidence of gold existing. That's what that has to do with it.

Was the cave there during the claimed gold chase incident?
Was the rock even there?
Such things matter to creating a tale to extend a tales tail.

Expanding the range , relics have been recovered in the area of Dents Run.
People have been active there a long time.
Does that mean payroll gold exists? Absolutely not.
But some of the relics offer more support to such a tale than have been revealed at the "cave" site.

Research military position in battle.
Research military position on sloped ground when at ease. Or at rest.
Or during recon.
Research military crest. And the why thereof.

Under pursuit and flying bullets are you going to stick with the sluggish heavy weighted wagon or are you going to abandon the load?
I won't recommend you steer your draft animals uphill.
But given the site is pretty much a gully I could bail and fire upon pursuers.

One thing burden animals aren't expected to do is go faster or farther. Well grain fed non sweaty hollywood ones do.. But that's not Dent's Run back when tons and tons and tons of gold being chased mules/donkeys/midget horse/reindeer/camels/ sled dogs or whatever the top secret military used back then..
And military draft animals care little about shooting noise. They been there.

Who was pursuing the military guard in such a successful fashion? How did a guard even get rousted instead of holding their ground? Military turning on their own? Conveniently no confirmed investigation is mentioned as to cause of deaths. Though military is want to conduct such. Maybe more so when tons and tons and tons of gold evaporates in the process. You know, just in case Uncle Sam inquires about it sometime.

During the Civil War, the Union Army was paid in currency - not specie. Soldiers could arrange for part of their pay to be sent home to their families. There was a national coin shortage. People hoarded gold and silver coins. The US Mint printed fractional currency to try to alleviate the shortage (the Secretary of the Treasury put his own picture on some of the bills). They encased postage stamps in mica as substitute coins.

As for the Dents Run treasure yarn, so far, we have "Oak Island Evidence" - there must be a vast treasure there, because people went to look for it.

I have tens and tens of thousands into my hunting site.
Listening to heavy equipment on a wild goose chase wouldn't be my idea of a fun legend tale. There is enough noise and traffic already.

Former hunted public land ...Well I'm not hunting Dents Run.
But like most places you drop a possum off to relocate it it's for your benefit , not the resident possums.

Public land isn't infinite.
Where deer are coming from and going to is a small percent of land base.
Where they go if pursued. As hunting pressure increases.
Browse tonnage per acre on mature canopied forest Vs agricultural areas thin out effective hunting spots.
I'll offer ten percent of the land host the majority of deer.
Learning those locations during varied seasons can take years.
You're telling me move on if someone is playing gold no gold on a given area?
What did the local racoons do during the digging? Poop in the cave?
No one trapped that area annually? Were they reimbursed for the drop in pelt takes?

Oh they can just go elsewhere.
So can treasure hunters when no real treasure is proven.
And who of the public digs on public land anyways? And why aren't they allowed to in the first place?

No clue about the rock. You can make a argument for it either way. We have no way of knowing.

Relics have can have absolutely nothing or absolutely everything to do with this story. I am not sure in what was found so you or I cannot comment on that.

Research a small band of soldiers being under attack and how they fight back/evade capture.

Ah yes the draft animals. According to the searcher there was one shipment of bars from the soldiers and other loot placed in that location from another party/time. Not tons all at once. You might want to go reread the original story & his theory.
