Death Traps??

I am very disappointed in those members who search for civil war treasures. I had read at least one story that during the war, people would hide treasures in caves and outside were hands painted, black is was safe to enter, red is a no.

During the Civil war, the Conferences hid some on their treasures in caves as mention above.

"Has anyone ever come across a death trap protecting a cache, or evidence of one that was "sprung" and the cache long gone?

It would be great to see some pictures of real Death traps in situ!!"

I answered the question ( and even gave examples of stories I have been told by other other prospectors and trackers.)
To some individuals they will be stories or tall tails--to the trackers and prospectors with experience they will know the
truth when they hear it. Often they will have encountered something similar or even experienced what I speak of.



I have come across DEATH TRAPS protecting a cache site. Traps that have already been tripped--and fully operational ones.
The best book with operational diagrams of them--and this book is excellent is by Charles Kenworthy
In one of my book's--TRACKING WITH ANGELS are photos of a few of the traps ( in situ ) I took a photo of.
There is no trap--diagramed by Kenworthy ( in my opinion ) that he did not personally encounter while out in the field.
Once you are out in the field you will encounter--or at least I do--many of the traps he has diagramed the operation of--and a number
of designs--not in any of his books.

The key concept of the operation--operational principal --of most of the traps--is greed and gravity --plus a understanding of human
behavior.

I usually do not put out photos of ANY STONE MARKERS--of Ancient times as then they do not have the impact to my readers--Oh I have seen that before,
or he stole that photo, or I saw that photo on the internet--the photos in my books--are original--and have never been published before--at least I want
that to be the case. In spite of that I have seen my photos on the internet and even in others peoples books used with out my permission.

Another legal consideration a tracker must always keep in mine is the laws of the country he is tracking in.
There are some things you DXX Well better not photograph if you have any common sense.
As the saying goes--some people have common sense--but often times common sense is mighty uncommon.

When KVM published photos of a "Cave of GOLD"--with the gold bars going back as far as the eye can see--
he had numerous threats on his and his families life--including them burning down his building /store--Examino
He also had every ASSET of his seized by the US federal government--even his house and bank accounts were seized
when he returned home--there were new pad locks on his house and notices by the US govt that it was property seized by
the government of the United States.

When Frank Fish published photos of gold and coins he found--he was murdered and his display cases containing gold
and silver were all robbed.

When Charles Garette displayed numerous silver coins--and the photos were published--his coin collections were also stolen

I could go on--but it is a fact of life--some governments and some people --operate with a sense of what is fair and right--
they have dignity , honor and integrity as my best friend Dan used to often say--and in some--the quality's of
dignity, honor and integrity are lacking.

Never come across a booby trap but I have found and destroyed several

If it was legal trapping season, and the traps were legally set, then you
have committed a crime. Rather than disturb them, call the game department
and have a officer check them to see if they are legal.

I love that video !!! One of my favorite movies from the 80s. Definitely one of the most terrifying death traps I ever witnessed. I always carry a set of spring loaded chattering teeth with me on my treasure hunts. You never know when they will save you from a pit fall trap. Lol..... !

Here's an old Apache cache up high in the mountains of Southern Az. Obviously it's been breached, but look at the vertical rock, maybe a sort of death trap? Not a whole lot of rock to cave in but ... If you look real close you may be able to make out the tip of a torch, it's insisde on the left area. I think they would light it and then seal the cache, maybe it depleted the oxygen for preservation?

Finding a death trap associated with a cache and for it to still be functional this many years after being put in place would be the equivalent of getting struck by lightning bending over to dig a target up while detecting. I see Jason in Enid point. It's an open forum and anyone can post what they want as long as it's not questioning ones finds or legitimacy of it or flat out calling someone a liar.

Hi, Due to Identity Theft & Family Illnesses & Deaths I was off of this site for so long that I forgot my password! Anyway I've been reading a lot of the topics & I have seen this discussion on other threads. I'm from MO, started going game & Morel hunting, fishing,MD & anything else the woods, creeks, rivers etc had to offer when I was 4yo. We fished a lot of farm ponds & strip pits. In Rural Woods & around Abandoned Homeplaces & Towns A lot! Point being that on this Topic I see most people are thinking of Death Traps as "Man Made". Stone Henge ((Hinge) comes to mind for me when I hear about 40k lb doors. Anyway, my people Settled SW MISSOURI when the territory's opened. Jesse & Frank James, Cole Younger & Bros, KGC, Confederate & Private Silver & Gold Caches...Many Civil War Battles & Scirmages. This story happened to me Personally & Luckily I Survived. Think for a second that instead of People Creating Death Traps...They used what God put on this planet & worked around that for security. We had a place at a large COE Lake. I was going to look around the original old home place for any history left behind when the Corp of Engineers made folks leave due to the lake being created. Lots of Medium to large rocks in piles & what looked like a pattern below the old place. There was a pond down there too. I had told my folks who were visiting with some neighbors what I was going to do & that I had my .22 LR & if I saw some frogs I'd get some & have we would have frog legs with the fish fry that night. Off I go, found a few small goodies following what to me was some sort of pattern down towards the pond. I'd been there many times before but not to a few of the rock piles. As I got to the second pile I was heading to I was looking down (mainly for snakes) lol! I saw some darker dirt that looked fresh. It had these purple flowers growing on it along with a vine connecting each flower bunch. It was not muddy at all. Anyway I jumped to land in the middle of it intending to just take one more step to the grass, turn around & check out this fresh dirt. I jumped the one time & went straight down! I had my rifle in my right hand & was sinking quickly! First thought: FIRE OFF A BUNCH OF SHOTS! No, family would just think I was shooting Bullfrogs. By this time I was up to my armpits. I tossed my gun up on the grass thinking at least they would find that. I didn't wanna die like that so with all the strength I could muster lunged for the grass. Thank God my hands made contact & the grass held! It took me about 20-25min to pull myself out, lost my boots & socks & had a weird film all over me. Of course I sat there for about 15min thinking about what just happened. I looked down at that "fresh dirt" that I had made a mess of pulling my body out. That stuff was coming back into place along with the purple flowers & ended up like Nothing had ever disturbed it! I could not believe it!! I went back to the truck & drove to where my folks & friends were & they saw the film all over me, I told them what happened & we all went back to see it. It was in Perfect Undisturbed Shape! They all look at me so I pick out a good size rock from a pile and push it on the dirt. It Sank & 15min later, dirt was smooth with all the pretty flowers back! TRUE STORY. The next day I went carefully back & started pulling some rocks out. There was some old jewelry, horse shoes, (found out later the owner was a blacksmith) and some silver coins, utensils, what was left of a jar & smallish leather bag (poke). A few other things, but it was that family's security & death trap! They didn't build it but made use of it for their needs considering the times. CWar. I hate to think what is at the bottom if there is a bottom! I've found two more of those & one bottomless it seems natural hole that a deer could step off into. That's in woods. Sorry for the Long Short Story �� Just wanted to convey that people sometimes used the land that would never change for safe keeping of their valuables. Happy Hunting!

Finally I find the room with the gold idol, the floor is littered with foot traps..I make my way up to the pedestal and I know that's booby trapped too, so I pull out this bag of sand..trying to gauge the weight of the idol with the sand..switch them out real quick..only the sand bag wasn't heavy enough...triggers the trap..the whole place starts to come down so I run as fast as I can out of the temple, arrows flying everywhere..get to the opening, my guide turned on me and ran off, so I swing across this pit, then this big stone starts chasing me...Nazi's were there, the natives tried to hunt me down, I had to run to the float plane..barely made it out alive. It was totally crazy.

hello, I have at a place called pinto creek in Arizona, it borders the superstition wilderness home of the lost Dutchman. it wason a dangerous trail going acrost a steep rockey ridge above pinto creek,i didn't make it to the stash spot too many rattle snakes, my profile pic is the deth trap picture, the skull is the deth trap symbol, the left eye of the skull is looking at you(it represents the trail you are on) the right eye socket of the skull is empty and in the shape of a arrow pointing down and the skull is faceing the direction of the deth trap,next to the skull is a 18 the 1 on the 18 also makes a cross, "18=7,7 is the holley number'( according to the Jesuit priests),this tells me that the right hand side of my trail is safe and the left is a trap,also tells me that there is oro and a heart meaning gold. so the left side of the trail under Neath rock supporting that part of the trail was carved away to brake off and fall to the canyon bottom if to much weight went across it,would defiantly kill you, oh and the white you see on the rock is quartz

As far his death traps go many people apparently think that the Spanish are using modern methods of creating a trap. It is far from it. The trick on the traps are usually leverage devices or if you pull a rock out something collapses. Traps do not cover Treasures. They are there to entice somebody to think they're digging of for a treasure but in reality they were created to kill people that are looking for a treasure. The treasurer is nearby but it's nowhere near where the death trap is. So if you think the treasure is underneath the death trap don't even mess with it. Later on I'll post some pictures and show you what some death trap looks like.
