Day 2 new permission. 5 silver's,1808 half cent, 2 large cents and a NJ copper!

Started back at the new permission this morning with a nice solid 3 inches of frozen ground. Started out with a new jersey copper, my first in almost 3 years. It's thick, but pretty warn. Next came the beautiful 1818 large cent. After that followed with my first ever capped bust large cent, 1810. Fourth copper was another first, an 1808 draped bust half cent!!!

After that little copper frenzy was over, I went back to the spot in the field where I found the silver's yesterday. I got real deep, scratchy iron signals, but with silver like numbers. All over a foot, I pulled out five silver coins in a 2 by 2 foot area. First was a Washington quarter, then a barber quarter. Then came another first for me, a 1918 walking liberty half! I nicked it with the shovel though. Darn thing was over a foot deep and since the signal was faint and scratchy the pinpointing was off. Then ended up getting another barber quarter and a washington!

Also got several relics. The usual buttons. Not sure what the large brass horn shaped(pipe shaped) piece is. It was deep. Nice bone handled pocket knife and a few other odds and ends.

My best coin day by far. So thrilled and on cloud nine! HH!

Well thank you and thanks for the banner. I was just lucky to hit a jackpot of a spot. Hard work, foot work and going against what the landowner told me. If someone tells you the property has been hunted to death, don't let that steer you away. Because that wasn't the case here. Far from it.

Matt, I love it when they tell me that! I found a DB 1/2 cent and civil war token at one site that the owner's " friend " told me had been hunted many, many years. At another, I found a DB large cent that had never been hunted but was in the yard of a 1940's house. The owner gave me the old " I don't know what you think you'll find, but knock yourself out." The look on his face was priceless when I showed it to him. I am stubborn, so telling me a place has been hunted out just makes me all the more determined to go slow and get something to prove them wrong.

Wow, that is some nice finds. I wish we had that old history on this side of the mountain in tucker county.

Congrats on a really awesome haul and making Banner! Nice!

The copper pipe shaped piece is from a Georgian era 1700s teapot. You can see a non-dug exact match to the one you found in my 2013 year end post in the link in my signature line.

Thanks, buck. An yeah, after I cleaned the end of the spout I could tell what it was. Pretty cool.

Congrats once again on the finds and now making it up on the banner.

Wow, great day of hunting! Love the Half Cent!

Steve

Boo hoo, a shovel broken in the frozen ground lol.... I think I'd offer up a DOZEN shovels to have such a day! Congrats on the well-deserved banner Matt! I'll bet there are more great days ahead at this site.

Da88 It man.
I'm soo envious .
Happy for you to .
With finds like that , I'd likely hunt till I dropped or my machine broke, & would dig with my hands when my shovel broke.
Thank goodness I always carry a spare of some type.

Im looking forward to the day I find any one of those awesome items none the less all of them! Congrats on an great haul!

Ha. Funny story. So I go on the hunt for a new permission on Monday, first place nobody was home. Second place I go, he wasn't home and he pulls up right as I leave and I back the truck up and roll my window down, ask if I could detect and he said go ahead. Anyway, it was still early, but my batteries were just about dead. So by 1:30 they crapped out. I had to call my wife, give her the address so she could come give me some new batteries. I wasn't about to get in my truck and leave. I had already found the barber half, silver Washington, sword plate and buttons. I didn't know if leaving the guy would be like nope sorry, you can't come back. Thank the lord for my wife for bringing the batteries!

I hear ya. I had 6 firsts at the farm. Half cent, a silver half dollar(two different kind), a capped bust large cent(or classic head), a standing liberty quarter and a breast plate!

Simply incredible. Stay on that cloud as long as you can my friend.

This is from Don on the NJ copper:

Thanks Matt,* I played with the photos and am 95% sure now it is not the more common 77-dd, but the Rarity 4 (Very Scarce) variety 75-bb.** So before I commit I want to send the photos to a NJ collecting buddy of mine and see if he agrees.** It would be the 4th one of that variety in my almost 700 coin survey.** I will send my "doctored" photos now.* But will let you know when my buddy collaborates or not. It is one or the other, but most attributes I can see favor the 75 and not the 77....

No biggie. Thanks. I hope to get back in there this week. I hit it hard those two days, but I'm sure there's some more goodies.

That is an awesome haul of keepers piled up! It looks like what a person would find in a WHOLE YEAR of detecting, not two days! Very awesome!!!
