At the spot we have continued to pull stuff from. It’s close to a revolutionary battlefield. This ball was almost 2 feet deep. Is it a cannon ball?!! Weighed 24.4 pounds on a scale. Don’t have the tools to measure anything else and info on button would be nice as well. Some research tells me they did make 24 pound canon balls.

Oh yeah!!! And a beautiful example of each one. well done!

Yes, there were 24 pound naval cannons during the Revolution. That is most likely what it is.

Great finds! :occasion14:

That's a very nice dandy button and I would bet that's a cannonball.

Really nice save on the cannon ball. Congrats!

Nice saves. I’ve got a button with a similar design and dated it mid 1700s.

That is a crazy cool cannon ball! Wow. I would LOVE to have one of those. I vote banner on this!

Thats a sweet find around here I would have not dug it lots of deep trash. ?Thats the fun part when you live in an area where there were wars and with alot of history and you dig everything. That had to be hard to pull it up from its hole lol Great Mantle piece!!!!!!

I am surprised this post isn't getting more love. I think that cannon ball is one of the best finds on here recently!

Thanks. Haven’t cleaned it up yet but this could be a british marking or just a trick on the eyes I included an example

What are you doing to clean it? Electrolysis? I have seen some people do that and then cook it in boiling wax and that gives it a nice finish. Someone will know more about it
