I'm sure you all have songs or albums that had a profound effect on you growing up.
For me as an 11 year old in 1984 first hearing this changed everything. Electronic music was the future for me hearing this Thumping from a speaker at some kiddies disco.
Still sounds fresh 40 years later (released in 83) I heard once it is the biggest selling 22" of all time but feel free to fact check me on that I never bothered with a source other than something someone said years ago...

Great band. Of course how could they not be having been reincarnated from Joy Division after Ian Curtis died.
They where from my neck of the woods in north west England.
They where in my opinion the second best band to come from Manchester. The Smiths being the best.

I hadn't heard of Joy division in 1984 and as that decade progressed I was listening to more electronic music rather than guitar bands.
By 1986 I remember hearing of a brand new sound coming over from Chicago and still remember buying this on vinyl down at the record shop...

Born in 1957, I am of the biased belief my generation has made and listened to the best music ever made. Electronic music born in the 1970s when "synth" was introduced. This song changed my appreciation of music forever.

The Smiths were definitely one of my favorite all time bands.
