CRISPINS CRITTERS

Being a "news junkie," I saw this story,

Shower of $20 bills gathered up by passing motorist - Saskatchewan - CBC News

It reminds me of this story....

I was having a rough period of time (no, not then, another time...this was late 70's),
and was actually living in my car with everything I owned in the world.
The bad thing was that I was so broke, I couldn't even afford gas.
I was parked outside a Friend's house and he allowed me to take showers, etc.
I couldn't stay with him 'cause his girlfriend was kinda funny about that. Yeah, everybody's funny.
He also allowed me to borrow his rake and I scoured the neighborhood raking leaves.

I eventually had enough money to get gas, get a haircut,
get some clean clothes from the thrift store and answer a call-back for a job!

My first stop was the closest "stop-n-rob" to get gas.
After pumping my gas, I was walking towards the store to pay,
when I noticed a bank type envelope on the ground.
I picked it up and it was filled with money!
I slipped it into my pocket without counting it but I'd guess that
there was several hundred dollars in that envelope!

I paid for my gas and drove to the Main Branch of the bank based on the envelope's advertising.
I parked, walked into the bank and found the office of the bank President.
He was in his office and he was alone.
I strode into his office and slapped the envelope full of money on his desk.
He looked at me as if demanding an explanation.

I said, "I found this in the parking lot of ***** about 15 minutes ago.
It is obvious that it belongs to one of your customers.
There's a withdrawal slip with the account number
and you should be able to see that it is returned to the rightful owner."

His expression changed to dumbfounded.

He fumbled looking for a pen and said,
"Wow! How honest. Let me get your name and phone number. I'm sure that you are entitled to a reward"

I smiled, reached my hand to shake his and said,
"I got a really great feeling returning this money. That feeling ain't for sale."

I turned, walked out of his office and back to my car.

When I got in my car and turned the ignition.....

Nothing.
My starter was toast.

I had to spend the rest of my money and borrow $20 to fix my car.

I barely made it to the job interview and hadn't gotten a haircut and was wearing my best raggedy clothing.
I must have looked like I needed a job 'cause I got the job!

Armed Security with a company that contracted.
Yeah, I know, rent-a-cop.
But they started me as a Sergeant due to my MP service.

I heard my friend say a couple of days later that there was a letter to the editor of the local newspaper, someone, either the owner of the money or the bank President, I don't remember, had written of the incident wishing to thank the "needy-looking" young man who returned over $1000 to the bank.

I never told my Friend, nor anyone else till now.

Jeff,

Thank You for the validation.
I still am ashamed of my causing earlier animosities between us.

GIB is NOT getting one of these...

add THAT to your list.

worldtalker,
Most every guy we performed triage on or operated on had earned (paid dearly for) their reward of a Purple Heart.
Each was then and still today is still a hero in my book.
Don...

Ya know, Friends,
Life is up and down...

I know;
Hell, my life has always been a roller coaster of emotions and experiences.

My Mom once asked me when I would tire of riding....

Some thought I needed psychotropic meds, some opined about institutionalization.
Most thought I was an alcoholic
or a fiend on some type of drug and recommended close supervision.....
Now, THERE'S some stories!

Ahem....

Most importantly, I've found that life is finite...(DUH!)

How you live your life is up to you and your abilities, as is my life to do the same.

I think that we can all agree on issues of morality, but,
the deeper one searches into their beliefs, these beliefs may be challenged by;
the law,
society,
Family,
Friends,
even one's own beliefs,
when seen in a new light....

Every day that I awake, I am Thankful for
another gift of life for a new day.

I never intentionally hurt, belittle or see anyone as insignificant of our shared gift: LIFE

I was taught well by my Mom,

1-IMG_0873.webp
(about, 90's?)

{I made the frame out of gum wrappers.}

I was taught the value of life, other's feelings and how to LOOK for ways to help others.

I learned early the feeling of helping others, earning my own dollar
and how to treat others as I'd expect to be treated.

My Mom also had a bit of a "dark" set of advice that she taught me.
"Never trust the word of anyone you wouldn't trust your butt to a whippin',
always know more than you let on,
never lose a fight without swinging back at least three times and
always know that I brought you into this life and by God, I can take you out."

She died five days before Christmas 2001 and I still fear her....
And Love her as my greatest "Professor" and Mentor.

True, just as in my classes, I'll occasionally correct my Professors,
my Mom wasn't perfect in "child rearin'."
Hmmm..
We definitely had our differences, mostly about my music and something like the volume,
But,
I miss Mom....

I can still her sayin',
"Son, I don't care if you're a trashman, as long as it's legal and you are happy."

I guess this song hits you as it is hitting me....

I'm gonna sit back now and just "ponder."
"Ponder what?"

"Shhh... Just Ponder......"

Best,

Scott

PS.

Here's the last pic I found of Cory.
He's with his Sister, Sadie Ann, my Neice.

She's going to Graduate High School this Spring and has been accepted to Kansas State University!
I'm so PROUD!
{even though K-State is the interstate rival of Kansas University where I attended a coupla maybe 20 years ago....

"Folks will soon be accusin' us of havin' morals and common sense."

"But Andy, We'll be all alone; outcasts of a society voting for freebies!"

"Yeah, like Barney says, we'll be...what did you say we'll be, Barney?"

andy2.webp
"Now looky here, Boys,"

"Gomer, you an' Barney stick to your guns, be civil and decent, but trust no one,
and always eat dessert first!"

"SHAZAM!"

Bless all you vets and thank you all.

Lee Teter's picture entitled 'Reflections' says a lot about Viet Nam--without the need for any words.

If you haven't experienced "The Wall", do so when you can.
Don.....

I still have a little requirement to declare once I achieve my Associates Degree pursuant of a Bachelors.
That would be a minor Degree.

I'm thinking Social Services and how they might be applicable to the VA.

I'll bet that I can find a place helping Vets with my chosen field.
After all, Protectors of America are all Brothers and Sisters.
We may not know of you exact experiences, but we know how you survived.
Now, Let's start living Life again....

Best,

Scott

Y'all don't forget about daylight savin' time this weekend....

Scott

Gol Dang!
Let's hear some more Southern Rock!

And this....

What do y'all think of when someone mentions "Southern Rock?"

My Best,

Scott

I will schedule time to help Disability Resources this coming week.
Think I'll wait until a "business time" tomorrow to email Sonja.....
She will surely tell me of their needs and I can plan tools to take.

I have a repair kit satisfactorily prepared for electric wheelchair repair.

All that is missing is knowledge and experience.

But,

Really, I'll figure it out.....

"Why stay in College? Why go to night school? Gonna be different this time?"

Best,

Scott
