CRISPINS CRITTERS

Good Afternoon, All.

I've not posted for awhile due to classes, studying,
helping my locksmith Friend, volunteering at the Disability Resource Center
and trying to maintain domestic responsibilities.

In other words,

Best,

Scott

PS.

I'm going to try to teach myself how to make sushi.
Anybody have any tips or experience?

Don't use Tuna from the Pacific!!

Scott.

Buy the best quality fish, and the freshest veggies. Get one of the bamboo rolling mats, and a really sharp knife. Make whatever combination you like, but do try ahi tuna, cucumber and avocado....umumummm! Make a dipping sauce by mixing soy and wasabi, and get after it.....It get's easier every time, and never stops tasting good......Hope you had a good couple days, and good to see you back....Gary

Scott,

I'll send you a pm with a link for some step by step instructions with pictures.

Gary,

I have a rudimentary grasp of sushi...
Use a wooden rice paddle, most wasabi is merely horseradish and food coloring,(REAL wasabi is expensive!)
and you can always eat your mistakes until perfection is achieved!

I've already purchased a rolling mat, sushi rice, and nori.

In between my internet academic research, I MAY tend to wander.....
I'm collecting info to a favorites folder.

Sushi may be a bit more expensive but it is a major step up
from ramen, the staple of college students immemorial.

Pictures of my first attempts when I begin?

Maybe.....

Best,

Scott

Right after classes, on the way to volunteer, I stopped at the only Vietnamese store in town.

Right in the middle of "Little Mexico." :dontknow:

Being a regular customer, I'm on friendly terms with the Family who operates the store.
Today, the son was working.
He is in his 20's and speaks pretty good English.
Better than my Vietnamese....
I explained that I wanted to make sushi and he directed me to this rice.
I then got the nori and he said, "You don't want forget wasabi."
I showed him on the ingredients label that it was horseradish.

Dang, if I didn't forget the rice vinegar. :BangHead:

I bought a rolling mat off of ebay, for a dollar, free shipping.
From China.
Should be here any day now.....:icon_scratch:

Best,

Scott

PS.

A song?

Well,
Here's tonight's musical mien for Scott.

(An obvious "Bootleg." Pretty good.....)

Scott,

Until the mat arrives you can cheat and use a damp dish cloth that you use for drying dishes....and don't forget the vinegar on the way home tomorrow....lol...

I'll tap you on the back of the head, and remind you why no one has a flattering DL photo.

How long did you have to wait until they took your photo? :dontknow:

Now, you too are touched in the head also,
a phrase that most of my relatives use to describe me. :tongue3:

Love me ALL animals!

Good idea, but "dishes week" is still a week away.

I just completed "laundry month!"

Damn maid. I'll fire her if she ever shows up.....

LOL, I am married to oriental girl, Asian food is our standard diet. We buy rice 20 pounds at a time, buy 5 pounds each of wild, brown, red, and either jasmine or black and mix it all together.... Rice cooker runs 24/7....

We buy bamboo and coconut vinegar, soy sauce by the gallon, and lots of fish.....

According to my doctor I am in very good health, told him it was my wife's fault, it is her cooking.....

I think that sushi is traditional to the Japanese palate.
You say, "Oriental girl...," does she have comments of sushi?

Best,

Scott

Wife is Filipino, yes she loves it, she has made it many times but we now have a oriental buffet that has all you can eat of sushi, shrimp, oysters, fried frog legs, crawfish, salmon, hibachi grill, Asian noodle soup made as you wait plus standard oriental fare all for $9.99 and I get coupons for buy 1 get 50% off second meal......

I lived in Okinawa for 2 years and dated a Japanese girl that made it as well.

I'm assuming from your post that you are a Veteran.

If I am correct, what branch?

Best,

Scott,

You can save some money by using the artificial crap,( Pollack), and just vegatables. I also have made it with salmon, and shrimp. Fun to make, and good for you, It's the food you wish your mother had made you eat........Gary
