CRISPINS CRITTERS

Hey Crispin,

By the above posts, it sounds like you need to appoint a "Minister of Preppers"

Hmmm. G.M.D., sure you don,t need to adopt an older kid , headed towards mid fifties maybe?

Heck after scroungin greens i could dish when your batchlerin it ,l.o.l..

Plantain seeding early this year it seems. Was not as prolific as normal but i have picked less young leaves for tacos too.

RC,

I would think that we could get together, and in short time do some processing and still have time to do some fishing. I really wish that trot lines were legal here, would like to fish all night without losing any sleep. People really don't realize how much Mother Nature does provide for the taking, and it's world wide.....What a life......Gary

Not easy, but there are foods available in some places where they could be used. Places too where its hard to scrounge something.
The bad part is some one suffering when relief is at their disposal. As has happened even to extreme.

Most effective methods are not for you and I and many others to employ in hopes of preserving some resources, till nets arrive anyway.

I still feel that it would be easy to teach anyone to be able to exist in an area in an emergency. I agree that some areas are better, and easier than others, but maybe it's my mindset, but have found good eats in the mountains and valleys here at home, and the Everglades in Fla. I also think that it becomes easier when you enjoy the search. Having to do it to survive puts a whole new spin on things. Still after close to 40 years of working and tramping the woods and waters, each day brings a new discovery, and each question brings more questions, and you spend more time looking for the answers

Gary,

I guess if you grow up with the mindset/experience it's easier.....spent most of my summers in the country when I was a kid...picked wild berries, fiddlehead greens, fished, etc...and thought all this was normal until I moved to the big city.

One of my coworkers who was an inner city kid when I came to Montreal took a drive north of Montreal with me riding shotgun....here he is 18 or so and it was the first time he saw a real live cow off in a nearby field.....lol...

Had a short stint in a city and was surprised by a gal approaching me one day when I was cleaning greens on the porch. One happy gal for sure ,quite willing to talk about them and made me feel I was not the only one out of place.

Bill,

Yes, I see your point, have dealt with it with clients who have moved to the country from the city for the " good live", and found out that it's harder work to live free in the country, then it is in the urban areas.

I saw a reality show a couple of years ago. People on an island kind of thing. They were on a beach in a tropical setting starving to death. No energy, had to lay and sleep a lot... pitiful...

Anyhow, there was a hidden idol or some such thing, and it was hidden next to the pineapple patch. And for goodness sake, don't go into the water, lot's of things there to bite you...

I'm convinced that if the lights go off in the city for more than 4-5 days... it's the end for most of them.

Let's just hope that when that happens the human hordes don't run to the woods....without knowing, they will scare and trample all the groceries.

Gary,

Yeah but the satisfaction of providing for yourself is worth more than money in my books....push comes to shove we can put some pretty good grub on the table for next to nothing with a bit of effort....that gallon or so of tomato sauce has a cost of about $1.00 of store bought goods the rest from the garden.....

All righty then.
Off to kitchen to forage.
tried a couple bacon wrapped shrimp at a friends wifes retirement earlier off a bizarre catered buffet for supper, not sure if a crime was committed or bait was rejected.

Guys,

Tonight has been highly enjoyable, and glad to have found common ground amongst us.....Now I too, am hungry and am heading to the kitchen. My neighbor is meeting me a 6 am in his boat, and heading out to get some more fish, ( I hope) have a great rest of the night, and be back tomorrow......Gary

jeff,

Me thinks she's a bit out of your league....it happens to be Jennifer Lopez....lol.
