Believe it or not.... I caught and released 24 1/4 incher which weighed 7.2 LBS on my Berkley digital scale. Would have won the Molson Big Fish contest and had the new Ontario record for Smallmouth Bass that year if I didn't release her. Would I do it all over again? In a heart beat. Gotta try the Chug Bug, kind of like a Hula Popper juiced up on a Lance Armstrong or A Rod strength of a cocktail. The most superior top water bait on the face of the planet IMOHO.
:o i,m thinkin, i,m thinkin.
Any smallie over five lbs has my respect.
over seven it would be cigar time.
I applaud your decision to put her back, likely with a thanks for her letting you catch her to boot.Says alot to turn out a pay fish.
o.k., storm lures selling chug bug.

Have a great weekend all, talk to everyone Sunday or Monday when I get back on the grid.

Good afternoon, RC, ever try "Charlies Worms"? They make a 8 in. purple with spects, Bro-in-law just left here on the Lake to head back to FLa., and in i0 days of morning fishing for both sm., and lg., mouth bass but 138 lbs. in the boat. And that was the only bait he used! I just don't have the finesse to fish rubber, and prefer the stick bait, and fly rod poppers.......Later......Gary

Dang, would have made a good ad for Charlies!.
Nope never tried em.Purple or wine, both with a single white stripe plow jockey(kellys) avg. used.
Have tried others. They have changed over the years. Seldom see a white that looks like actual crawler in shape, been awhile, we used to cut 2 or 3 inch pieces depending on length of shank on 3/8 jig head.(Then jig pike and walleye, bass used to hit a purple on occasion) Or better yet when flat tails came out like Manns hard nose jelly,(or what ever biggest were in mid seventies) more of a very short spade tail , catching tiger muskies by swimming 12 inch like snakes!.Got to see them coming in or near lilies or other shallow water cover....a small one would sever tail if it were a contrasting color with body thus killing action. Big ones took head shots so Texas rig hooked them. Zzzzzzippp!!! Allright fish onn!
Saw them multiple times on surface calmly seining minnows by over riding them with nose barely above water. One of many interesting views of their habits.

I guess that success comes with what you use the most, and are familiar with......Have a couple extra bags of them, if interested, I'll be glad to send them to you, as I very rarely bass fish except when in Fla., and Champlain is rated in the top 10 bass catching lakes by the pros. I much prefer chasing salmon, walleye and pike. The musky population is growing rapidly here, and turning some attention to them. I also find nothing better than panfishing, filling the freezer with perch, and selling the bluegills to the local commercial market.

Tonight I have just settled in with a fresh batch of mint and ginger infused iced tea, and started getting hungry.
I feel like some fryed perch fillets, with a simple Cajun dry rub, and a fresh lettuce wedge with bacon bits, sliced jalapeno pepper,( optional), and blue cheese dressing. These perch I just caught off the dock the other night, and have not been frozen.....ummmmm

Going lurking for a while, be back later.....Gary
