CRISPINS CRITTERS

Anyone remember this?

Squiggy, we have found a black capped chicadee that was being played with by some kids. It is still alive and the local bird rescue is not responding to our calls at this hour. It is in a shoe box with a towel and some bird seed and a warm water bottle. Should we place any water in a bowl in there as well? Any ideas?

We think it's a baby but it is covered in feathers. Not a newly hatched bird though.

Turn on the Porch light and try to gather some small insects and place them half squished in the shoebox with the poor bird. Make sure yourself and the family give it space as any extra attention will surely stress the bird even more and could prolong any shock that it may and probably is experiencing. To quiet your guest place a porous cloth over the box to simulate night and hopefully that should help to calm and sooth our new feathered friend. I cannot convey enough that the bird should be removed from any other further attention (after what has already been done with the addition of the bugs) and be placed in a warm quiet place in order for it to begin to mellow out and start to recover. The stress will be the thing that may claim it's life.

Ok..What I would do is take the towel out of the box cause they can get their nails caught in it..then take lots of tissue and tear it and use that..if has feathers don't use heat..water bottle will get cold anyway...They sleep now so prob won't eat..put holes in box top and put bird in safe place in house..Pref not cold room. .
Hopefully it will make it and then you could take it to wildlife place first thing in am...

Care for it, love it, but soon it must fly....

Reminds me of a time that a bird once answered my whistling call and came to my hand.....

Thanks, we called many rehab facilities and hopefully at least one will call us. Lets hope birdie makes it!

A electric heating pad (on the lowest setting) under 2 folded up towels under the little one's roost for the evening may not be a bad idea either eh Squig?

Yes as Bbacon says keep everything quiet....remember no water dish in with it but in the am if you have a small syringe you could give very small amount H20

Add about 10 granules of sugar to the water?
