Cricketts and Chipmunks??

TH,

My parents brought me up to make my own descions, and make my own mistakes, to care care of my problems with no outside help,....But they absolutely hate that I have always considered myself a redneck, They say that I was brought up better than that, but I disagree, when I tell them I'm bilingual and speck fluent American, and regional redneck, they just bow there heads and smile. To me being called a redneck is a badge of achievement, and how many ednecks do you know with a BS,MS and credits toward the PHD.( "piled higher and deeper"):laughing7:

Heaven forbid that they reinstate the draft for some reason, and your kid that has never been allowed to shoot a gun, gets the minimal rifle training in boot camp and is dumped on the battlefield to try and defend himself and others. To think that one accurate shot may have saved your kids life on the battlefield would also be hard to live with. That's a real form of Darwinism......survival of the fittest.

Picker, your main question was how old is too young to shoot a gun. I have no stats or facts but my guess would be that there are more boy scouts that die from swimming, hiking, camping, swimming, boating etc. every year than die from gunshots during scouting activities. Shall we eliminate scouting all together or just eliminate the rifle and shotgun badges they can earn as scouts. Those are the "scary" things but forget about what really kills them. Those activities don't involve a scary gun so they can continue doing them??

I disagree, it's the parents responsibility to decide if the kids are old enough to shoot, and to teach them safety. Does it really matter what color the gun is? A .22 is a .22, is a .22!

I agree 100 percent. After all if a child breaks a neighbors window who is responsible, the parent. It is up to the parent to raise and care for their children not the government!!!

This discussion reminds me of my buddie's wife. I love her immensely but, when they were here visiting, she saw the mother hen with a clutch of chicks roaming around the yard. She said, "Oh, how cute! Are they still nursing?" I guess it's just what you're exposed to in life that molds your understanding of it. :)

I object to "redneck" when it is meant to be derogatory...

TH,

No offense is taken, I was just trying to show that labeling by the uninformed is truly counter productive. I'm proud of who I am, and stand by the principles that have allowed me to survive all these years. The world that I was born into, and raised in , has changed dramatically, and sometimes I have a hard time adapting to it, But since I'm unwilling to give up my heritage, it is what it is. My rights are secured, and will give my all to see that they are not denyed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some have tried to milk a billy goat though.
Takes awhile to fill the jug! :tongue3:

some have pretty good luck with milking us for all we have. guess who??/

Talking about all this milken Ever think why men have nipples? Might have to go to wall street for a answer. They know everything.

Packer,

Until very recently, my son was a sheriff's officer with a major department in Florida. I've mentioned this before. In fact he was a Sergeant. Among the various duties he had during his stay with the department was as a member of their SWAT team. Though that's not what they called their tactical response team. Like all SWAT personel only the best Marksman make the team. This department has over 1000 officers. Lots of competition. My son made the team on his first try. That was three years ago. Here is the point, he was age 26 when he made the team. The very first time he ever held a gun in his hand was at age 22. That was in at the academy.

So any talk about which kid is going to save which kid's butt, save it!

The kid who grew up in the protective bubble, as you put it, now has dual degrees, in Business and Criminal Justice. He also has a Private Pilot's license, with instrument and multi engine ratings as well as a rotary rating. He's moved to another department to join their aviation unit. So, he'll be flying now. Which has always been his goal. But if they need someone to shoot a fly off a wall at a thousand yards, he can do that to!

None of that changes the fact it is each parents right to decide what their child can and can't do and when they can do it within the boundary of the law....

Not much of a Jeff Foxworthy fan, huh?

By defintion, no one here is a redneck. Anyone who can afford to own a computer and be connected to the internet is too wealthy to be a redneck.

Whats funny is the people that think redneck is an insult when in all actuality it is a compliment. The term redneck came from the beginning of the coal miners union.Union members wore red hankies around their neck to tell members from nonmembers. The term redneck means a hard working union man.

That means he had 4 years to learn to shoot in a safe, controlled environment beginning at age 22. Men are drafted at age 18 and get very little range training before they are dropped into a combat situation. Not surrounding one guy in a house with 100 other officers with guns, tear gas and robots. Please. I'm sure you are very proud of your son but there is a big difference between the battlefield and the nutjob barricaded in a house. Too bad we can't train our soldiers for 4 years before we expose them to combat.
