I bought these from an estate sale today. I figure that even if they are all fakes which is no doubt the case..... they still look very cool to me. The information that I was able to find was that they either came from British Columbia or Virginia. Thoughts?
P.S. The most frustrating thing of all about this is that I have speant three hours (no exaggeration) trying to post these photos! They were in a jpeg format but for some reason this site suddenly will not recognize my photos and says that they need to be in a jpeg format! grrrrr. I had to convert them to a gif format which dulls them substantially and now the pics are not to clear.

Thank you. I sure wish i could resolve the photo issue. These are not clear at all. As for Charlie..... I accidentally added that pic but agree with you. He is a cutie :) I took that photo of him this morning on our walk. During that walk, we found one shale fishing point. I will post that soon.

If they are... it would rank as one of the top 10 truly awesome events in my life! :) Thanks for looking.

I can't tell you if they are real from the photos, but I hope that they are...the one piece that I really question is the stone fishhook, I have never seen one in person that was real...not saying that it is not but all the fishhooks that I have seen were bone...I would have bought the frame though...

I hear you OG........ the hook does look ........... yea..... I see it to hahaha. Its strange.... the more I look at individual points on this thing..... the more the "possibility" of some of them being authentic seems believable but then again..... I am far from an expert and so....... i must wait until those who know, chime in :) Thanks for looking.

It looks like you have a mixture there, some bogus, some look legit. Many of the pieces are obviously modern, but some of them appear to be Mex. pieces (toyah, shumla, the hafted scrapers, etc).

Brother.... you won't believe this but about 10 minutes ago I was telling my wife that I believe that not all but SOME are authentic!! Then you post your thoughts! I appreciate it Neanderthal. I also believe you are probably correct. As for the Mexican pieces.... I know zero about them and will have to study up. Thanks again.

I have to agree with Matt but, still a very nice frame. For that frame to be "all" authentic it would have cost a fortune.
Not bad if you paid a resonable amount for it.

Molly.

Hi Molly!!!!! Ok.... here is the deal on this. The folks who were selling it.... were selling two truckloads of everything from an estate and they just wanted to get rid of it all. I asked how much for this and the lady kinda shrugged and said... "Fifty?" I shelled out the $50.00 thinking that fake or real its more than worth it. Now..... I get home and on the back of the frame is an envelope and inside of that is a paper talking about Indians in North America and in British Columbia. On the back of the frame itself is a name and the letters "B.C." So.... I don't know any more than that but as you can see..... more than a few look and (feel) pretty authentic. As for the giant in the center...... oh how I wish it was real! :)N

I agree with Matt, some of the pieces do have a Mexican flare, others sort of look African neolithic... Here are some examples I picked up from Northeast Mexico. Some of your triangles and the hafted scrapers look like they are from North Central and Northwest Mexico. Unless the documentation specifically mentions Canada, BC might be Baja California...

The beads could be interesting, they look like white hearts. Red glass used to be made with gold, so they just put a thin layer of red glass over a cheaper color. If old and white in the center, they would be Hudson Bay Company after 1830 or so or African trade beads from the same era, or they could just be modern copies. If the glass has a greenish tint in the center, they could be quite a bit earlier. I don't know what the longer ones are, but maybe a bead person would be able to id them. The white curved shells look like dentalium shells.

Kind of a neat hodge podge of items there, good wall hanger with some interesting looking pieces.

Hopefully you'll have some luck with the site and be able to post a better resolution picture.

Joshua

Your words inspire me my friend :icon_thumleft: I am still blown away at the deal..... $50.00!!? Wow! I can't wait until I can get down to studying these items. As I get ready for work now...... staring at the frame and this site I realize that Life really is getting in the way of life! :) Stay safe!

He**, airborne, I've paid 50.00 for pieces that I knew were replicas....you have some really nice pieces in that frame...Try a black light on the big piece, it will show any modern chipping...

Thank you Oldgoa! That is what feels so great about this deal. I would have happily paid $100.00 for this knowing that they were all fakes. Now that I see and it seems that some, many or most may be authentic.......it's like winning the lottery! I am still soooo ammped up over this find! I hope someone can give me a type or name for the center one. I need to research that one first :) Thanks again.

I agree with everyone, still a good buy. Its a nice lookin' frame.

Molly..
